I was lucky to have the opportunity to purchase a new Ford Motorsports SVO supercharger kit by Powerdyne. It arrived today and I'm looking forward to installing it
Anyone have experience with this kit?? I posted up pics on a Big White's Facebook page.

Do you notice a big difference with it?

Mine came with the blower, but I certainly could tell a little difference after rebuilding it.

What was the factory supercharger Saleen shipped with the few that had the option. I know it was shipped to dealer in the back storage area but anyone have a model / type? And are they still available?

I believe it is the Powerdyne BD10 that was the unit for the early XP8's. Everyone once and a while, you can find one on eBay. When I owned 98-22, the only part that was missing was the head unit. I bought a good used one for about $700. The head unit may be easier to come across than all the other brackets, idler and other hardware.

I researched the 'big 3' Supercharger companies, approx. 15 years ago, when I SC'd my Mustang. Paxton, Vortech and Powerdyne. (Procharger was more than double the price, for an entry level kit). Paxton was, and still is, owned by Vortech, so same technology, different label on the SC unit. Powerdyne was the company that Ford SVO Motorsport attached their name to, so that weighed heavily. The reason Powerdyne didn't last is their technology. Their SC head units use an internal kevlar belt to drive the compressor. These belts all fail, over time. Not of question of if, its when. Rebuild kits were available, and they still are today. I've seen them going for $100-$300, for what appears to be the same kit?! Anyway, I ended up going with the Vortech. They are nearly bulletproof, and upgradeable, which I have since done.
Very cool, though going with the Powerdyne unit, as that is what came stock, as a (dealer installed) option on the XP'8. Let us know how you have fared with it. |
