Q: 1988 Saleen springs?
Working on the rear end of the car and noticed the gap between the tire and driver side quarter panel wheel opening was tight. Looks like to car is leaning a little and could be the springs. Did the Saleens have special springs or used the standard rate springs on the Mustang?

My '87 had the same issues a decade+ ago (about 80K miles) when you could still get the red racecraft springs from Saleen. It was the spring, which was substantially flat when removed. I replaced springs and Konis on both sides. I wish I knew the answer but most often Saleen appears to be using aftermarket equipment that is re-badged and painted: Eibach, Koni, etc. I think a bit of digging will get the answer if someone with a memory does not respond.
I am hoping that Saleen might acknowledge the fact that these early cars are all over 30 now, and more often in the possession of collectors and long-term owners who will be seeking out replacements for restoration.

Replacement parts availability has been a challenge for Saleen restoration here as well. My buddy's incoming '87 project might need new springs as well. We're gonna take a closer look soon when we finished installing the bumper and winch on the Wrangler tomorrow. Brake pads and tires are due for replacement. |
