Default 1988 a/c compressor

I've been having trouble with my a/c not blowing cold. Had it recharged twice and now they found the trouble is with the compressor. The Ford dealer can't find a replacement and recommends to have mine rebuilt for $800. I have found several rebuild compressors on-line in the $200-$300 range. The Ford dealer is willing to install what ever I find but warns me to make sure the numbers on the back of the compressor match.

My question is, which number? I've got these numbers on the back of mine.

6P148A
E2EH-190623-AA
8G 00440
BG 5236 or it might be 8G 5236

Any advise and help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Bart in Portland

Hope it is not too late, but you can get a rebuild shim kit and do it yourself for next to nothing. Check Ebay for the kits, I think they are around $50 and don't use a ton of specialty tools to install.

Also have your refrigerant checked. If just recharged, it should be fine unless there is a considerable leak. If not, then the low pressure will disallow the clutch to kick in. Also check to make sure that the pressure switch is good, they often times go out before the compressor. Lastly, check the play in the clutch to confirm it is the compressor and make sure to have the entire system professionally evacuated and then recovered.

The green reminds me of Chris Little's race car. That will be a fun project. I would restore the color, but if you do decide to keep it green don't worry, the graphics in black would tone that down quite a bit.

WickedS281SC might argue that. J/K.

Looks like it originally was red. One thing I would definitely do is to paint the engine bay black, or at least finish the color into the tranny tunnel. Just my opinion. I would also do the intake a different color, Not as much work or commitment as a complete color change to the car, but would also tone the car down some.
