Q's: 2006 S281? - Possible new owner
Hey all, I'm smitten by a 2006 Saleen I've seen for sale. What I'm wondering is what sort of things should I look for? I'm a tad worried because these are rare cars and i'm guessing parts are tough to come by. I'm also wondering how they've held up over the years. Mine would be a 1-2/week/perfect weather driver, so no daily usage.
Thanks for any info. |

Hi and welcome to the forums!
Is this 2006 Saleen Mustang a 3-Valve, a Supercharged or an Extreme model? |

Start by verifying it’s a legit Saleen and original options car had when leaving the factory by contacting Saleen factory in Corona, CA. Inspect the car just like you normally would any vehicle you are looking at. Prior repairs/ repaint, service history, how many owners, etc. Your primary concern would be cosmetic body pars as some are NLA from Saleen while others could get expensive.
Overall the ‘06 is quite a robust car if maintained properly. Mine is an ‘06 normally aspirated stick shift daily driver with 98k miles. I’m the second owner, have service history from day one. I service it at Galpin Auto Sport, oil changes and alignment are a fraction of what my former CLK55 ran me. It’s due for a major service, not sure how much that would run nor where it will go for that. I haven’t touched the brakes or suspension components so can’t comment on service costs of those. The Saleen is my first domestic car in more than a decade. Recently I had an inkling to get back to the Euro scene and looked at a number of 996 Porsches. At the end of the day I could not justify giving up a Saleen for any reason at all. Saleen performs just as well as a n/a 996, looks and sounds better (will draw more attention than 996 anywhere in LA) while costing a fraction to maintain. I still would get a 996 P-car but not at cost of sacrificing the Saleen. |

I am a second owner of a 2006 S281 that I picked up when it only had 6k miles. The car has been amazing for me... She now has 144k on the clock and i've had no issues what so ever with the car. The stock clutch lasted 133k miles, i've had the supercharged maintained, and rebuilt. Given the mileage, I chose to replace the suspension at 100k with "fun things I wanted" and had the rear-end overhauled, but nothing ever "failed"
