Default Q: Circular turn signals options?

Has anyone changed out their turn signals to anything different? Or changed the bulbs to LEDs?
I just found out the Saleen turn signals are from a mini cooper from another recent thread on here, quite a surprise.
Except no company really offers any aftermarket turn signals for the mini cooper, wanted to see how they would look like on a Saleen.

When I purchased mine the previous owner actually installed HID's in there. Love it!

Have you had any discoloration of the lens from the heat?

Surprisingly they still look good. The car is also an 05 so its been out in the elements. I will snap pictures tonight with the lights on/off.

If you are thinking about trying to change the lens housing to something different it might be tough. They are rotated a quarter turn for the Saleen's and I believe they are placed in a different bracket. Not 100% positive though. Next time you see a mini driving down the road you'll notice how their white "driving light" will be pointed downward towards the ground though.

I have LED's in mine. I like them because you don't see any amber until they blink. They were expensive though, $70 a set for the ambers (3157). All the corners are 194's and the license plate bulbs are 6418. I think the tail bulbs are 3157 too.

In the circular turn signals? I didn't know they made 3157's in HID's...

Yeah, definitely HID's. I'll take pics of the ballasts also.

I wanna see! So there are 2 HID bulbs in each housing or just the regular amber for the turn and HID for the parking light?

As promised. I haven't taken them out so I'm not sure what kind of bulbs are in there. I do know they are 6000K. Here are some pictures. When I turn on the blinker the other side of the light turns on also. When its just "on" only the outside is lit up.

Any pics of the ballast? I'm wondering if they are LED's and what you see might not be ballasts but resistors?

They are regular ballasts like the one's that you purchase with the ebay HID kits. Regular size, not the slims.

and those are not the ballasts for your headlights? Just seems odd, doesn't seem any brighter than LEDs in that housing and they are HID, def. weird set up!

Yeah I agree, my Saleen did not come with factory HID's so I currently have 4 ballasts sitting in there. If it wasn't raining I would snap some more pics LOL

I think this is what it is: http://r.ebay.com/dHmifn.

I don't think I would want that in a sealed housing. My last DDM HID kit almost melted my trucks headlight assembly and it was a F250 which is huge compared to that little driving light. I think I'm going to stick with an LED.

Slowstang, definitely get us more pictures. Can you not feel the heat coming off of it with your hand?

I was thinking about going down the LED path, but I wanted them so that they are always amber like when they are blinking. A friend recommended to buy them from superbrightleds.com, they sell them for cheap, same with the LEDs for the license plate bulbs. Where did you get your LEDs from?

Those look nice! Very bright and clear over the stock ones. I saw a guy at fabulous ford with them but I don't remember who he was (I think he had LEDs though).

I bought mine from www.vleds.com. The amber bulbs are 3157 and the little bulbs are 194. If you do the little 194 bulbs make sure you buy the bulb that doesn't have an led going forward or it will look funny because of the clear housing. Buy the led that is flat and has led's on two sides, left and right only.

Thanks for the bulb number and info, I think i might just get them from superbrightleds.com instead,
I dont know the difference between what the 2 sites sell, but its much cheaper ($17-$25), and should be relativity the same.

You'd be surprised with V-leds quality and brightness.. I have tried others and you really get what you pay for with LED tech..

Completely agree. I've had every kind of led you can buy. I won't buy from anyone except VLed.

I put led market bulbs in from SDMustang. I currently have Ed working on getting me the turn signal bulb in LED. My bulb has offset posts unlike the 3157.

I like the look of the driving bulb. Mine feel the housing weird. Have a link to those small led bulbs?

I will need to pull them to see if they are the 5 or 9 LED. I remember they almost touched the lens.

Mine are 5 led from VLed but they don't feel the whole light out like yours. Hold on I'll take a pic.

Nice pic of the LED, looks great, yet another great option on the table to pick from

Nope, it was just the photo. Same price led as the ones from VLed. You have obviously made your mind up where you are going to buy them. No reason to try and change mine.

Your right, the 194 is the same price on VLed, seems more legit, I might get that one from VLed. I only looked at the 3157 on VLed, you bought the 3157 LED amber turn signals right? Can you post some pics of that when you get the chance?

Sure will bud. They weren't cheap, $79.99 a pair, but are better quality than any of the other bulbs I bought from them. My amber 194 corners just went out last week and the 194 front driving light I just took a picture of is now blinking like its going to go out. Give me 5 min and I'll try to get the blinkers. They look really sweet blinking :).

Ok, so I tried to take as many photos as possible. I can't really get a good shot of the bulb itself, unless I take off my full rad cover and intake to get to where the bulb is. I am doing a full detail on the car tomorrow and will do it then. But here is something to give you an idea of just how bright the amber 3157 is.Click image for larger version

No, they aren't the V3 Triton. They didn't have the V3 when I bought these. Mine are these but in amber: http://www.vleds.com/platinum-white-...5s-1-pair.html. It seems they have come down in price since I bought them.

FYI: I think I have been telling y'all the wrong size bulb for the front blinkers. The tails are 3157's! My bad guys.

How did you guys get to the turn signal bulb? Is there an easy way to reach them?
I just replaced my dome lights and license plate lights and the LEDs for the turn signals just came in,
but at first glance, I don't know what the best way to get to them

I just replaced my dome lights and license plate lights and the LEDs for the turn signals just came in,
but at first glance, I don't know what the best way to get to them
There is no easy way. I pulled the rad cover off and dove in. They can be a PITA to remove from the housing though. I used a towel and some vice grips to turn it and pull it out of the housing.

Attempt 1 failed. That was not easy to pull out, there is almost no room in there, gonna do it when I have more time

That's why ya use vice grips or pliers. Put a towel around it first so you don't mess it up and then grab a hold with a plier.

After you pull off the rad cover take out the 2 bolts that hold the top of the front bumper on and you can pull the bumper down slightly to get better access to the turn signals.

Finally had the time to install it, everything went smoothly, and it looks great!
Only problem is...now I need new headlights because it makes it look bad since the turn signals are so clear and white now hahaha

So has anyone tried a different LED other than the vled for the turn signal? Also what about brake lights and reverse lights? I'm thinking about ordering them all from SDMustangAccessories unless there's a reason not to. I don't need them to be brighter than my headlights lol... But I would like to also change those out for HID's if there's a decent kit or if I can get a hold of a factory set.

All of the bulbs in and out of my car are Vleds. Just get whatever you like and want to spend you wont be disappointed, their LEDs are the highest quality.

Just ordered front turn signals and driving lights. Anyone have the numbers for the brake lights and suggestions for backup lights?

Thanks!

I got them from SD Mustang Accessories, I will be getting the rear lights from http://www.superbrightleds.com/ because they have dual intensity LED's that I can't seem to find anywhere else.
