Help: Weight of Oil to use?
I was just wondering what weight of oil you guys use. The previous owner of my car said he used 5-20 because thats what the cap says. I know saleen says to use a different weight, is there a consensus on what weight should be used? Also, are any of you guys seeing oil consumption, I get a very little but I thought that it could be because of the wrong weight of oil.
P.S. I tried using the search button and it kept saying no results which is odd because I assumed it would be a discussed topic. |

Your oil consumption is most likely due to excessive blow by, look into an oil catch can.
And I personally use 5w20 in my S/C car here in the warm climate of texas ;) |

I just put on a catch can and it picks up a teaspoon or so about every 400 mi. It's placed on the drivers side.

That is a normal amount for these engines, especially if you only drive short distances as they blow by a good bit while they are cold. You will notice the puff of white smoke has disappeared after a restart following moving the car.
I use full synthetic 5W30 as directed by Saleen, I was told this week (by JDM)that I could go to 5W50 in this hotter climate. Saleen has a sticker that covers the fill tube that not all cars received (they sent me mine), that marks it 5W30. I understand the 5W30 makes the valvetrain a little queiter, but mine has always been the same so I don't have a personal reference.

I too had that issue with what weight to use. If you look under you hood by the latch there is a decal that has some info and it says to use 5w30 witch is what i use I just changed my oil today. I dont think you would have any issues going with 5w20
