Default Exhaust hanger failure - Muffler cases

Whats up fellas.... I was wondering if any 05-09 Saleen owners have a problem with your muffler. Well long story short I started to hear a rattling noise once I a while never really put much thought to since at times I would put a couple of things in the trunk. Well the rattling or clunk noise got louder and decided to look underneath. I saw one of the hangers that holds the muffler broken,so took it to the muffler shop. Well at the shop we discovered that there was two large holes were one hanger broke off and got lost and the other was just hanging by a thread. The the thing is that Saleen decided to weld the hangers from the muffler body were now it makes sence that it would break off sinner or later. So muffler shop patched up the holes and welded on new hanger from the pipe where it would be stronger. Well just giving you guys a heads up. Oh yeah the muffler that was most affected was drivers side. Pass muffler was ok no hangers on body.

I had the same issue.. Went with a whole new rear section set up and disconnected the center, now the chrome center tips are always clean!

So what set up did you go with? I was thinking of doing the same thing but I'm unsure what would fit.

Wow thats nuts, I just drove up to my saleen today and noticed the muffler on the drivers side looked lower! I looked under it and there is a hole in the muffler where the welded hanger pulled out. A shop can just just re weld that correct?

He should be able to. Make sure you check for another hole at the top of the muffler because I believe that there two hangers welded to the body. I just had the shop weld some patches to cover the holes and add new hangers welded from the pipe.

Cool thanks looks like next week is time for an oil separator, oil change, exhaust fix, and a new windshield banner.

Royal Muffler did a custom job for me over here in SoCal.. I can tell you that you will need to use a muffler of 12" or shorter in length if you have a rear extreme diffuser so muffler options are pretty limited. My muffler (not sure of the brand) is a straight through resonated design made out of T-304 stainless and sounds like the car always should have from the Saleen factory. That hacked up magnaflow they used on the extreme was in pretty bad shape..

I recently had the same issue as well. Only my drivers side muffer was missing the whole hanger and had a big hole in the side of the muffler. After doing some research here and on some other forums it appears this is a very common issue.

I had the same issue with mine this past summer. Had my mechanic weld up the hole and re-weld the hanger. Glad to hear this is a common issue, thought I had a lemon! LOL

I was wondering if a axle back kit that would fit a 2007 gt would fit the Saleen. Now I do know the center exhaust might not work out but I am willing to leave it just for show . I was looking at the Ford racing catalog and seen an axle back that is used on the fr500s that fit 05-09. Does anybody know if this would work. Add more to the list of making the Saleen sound like it should have from the Saleen factory.

In most cases, yes. You issue will be cutting the straight tips off of your aftermarket mufflers and placing turn-downs in their place.

A local fella' installed a Mustang GT axle-back on his 2007 S281 S/C and they tilted the muffler cases downward to clear the straight tips under the rear bumper cover. This did not look nice.

You know after three years, I see this issue for the first time. I never even thought to look.

My warranty ran out of miles last Monday. I look yesterday and there is a missing hanger and a hole in the Drivers side muffler! I will do what the others have done and have it patched and a new hanger added to the pipe, sad it will be on my dime. I am sure it has been gone for awhile.

If you had the extreme diffuser you would have known right away like i did because as soon as the muffler drops it hits the CF diffuser.
