Default Had Mcleod RST Installed today

I cant believe the difference in feel. The pedal is so much lighter than with the stock clutch. When I first pushed the pedal I thought they forgot to install the pressure plate.

I had one recently installed as well. I have driven about 200 miles of city driving and I still experience chattering when I get a bit lazy. I have been told that it's going to get better after the full 500 miles of break in time.
Other than that, I haven't been able to really test it for fear of an improper break in process.

Did you use stock flywheel? Did you also change out the slave cylinder? How's the pedal engagement? Is it closer to floor or in the center? I am planning on getting the RST with the McLeod aluminum flywheel in the very near future so I am looking for any tips.

I used the stock flywheel, new slave cylinder. It engages about the middle.

RST, Spec steel fw w/replaceable center, dorman slave, new pilot bearing. I looked at the stock fw and the clutch disk, it really needed a fw with a bigger contact area, the stocker only contacts about 65% of the disk. It will "work" with the stock fw, but it will be better with one with a bigger contact surface.
My two pennies...

Same here Jason...keep me posted. Are you looking at a complete setup or just the clutch? Will it be compatible for the E-cars?

Yes, it will be compatable for the E-cars. We just have to change the spline count to a 28 - no biggie and no additional cost. We can also supply and CORRECTLY modifiy the slave cylinder for the E-cars.

Considering there is no real good solution for the shifter in a S-197 with a T-56, id say no. We work on several E cars here and they all have that sloppy shifter issue.

I'm either going to do it myself (pretty mechanically inclined) or have a local German shop do it, so will the kit be an all inclusive/turn key kit?

Okay, so I had the RST and aluminum flywheel installed last week. Love the feel of the clutch and pedal. I do have a question though. I am hearing a strange noise coming from the tranny when I move off in first and I also hear it in 4th gear. It kinda sounds like a metal clanking sound. The shop told me this is a normal sound for these dual clutch systems but I find that hard to believe. I am taking the car back to the shop on wednesday to let them hear it. Anyone have any feedback about this.

You shouldn't have any noise at all.

Do you hear the unexpected sounds when you are in low RPMs (not too low) and slightly accelerating/maintaining speed??

Example: 3rd gear @ 20>25 mph or 4th gear @ 35 +/-

I have that! Mainly in 4th gear at anything under 2k RPM.. I get a pretty nice vibration coming from the trans area. I was also told this was a dual disk setup issue and won't cause any damage or anything. I just stay away from what causes it. Weird thing is its only in 3rd a little and then 4th, but not 5th or 6th..

Thanks oren,
thought it was only me. I'll just keep breaking the clutch in then. I do love the difference in the way the pedal feels.

I was told it is because of the dual disk set up as well. I hope it goes away as the clutch breaks in. I find that I have to shift more often to grab a few thousand RPM before getting into a higher gear to relax after accelerating. There are a few corners on two tracks that I will have to learn over again because of it as well. I had a Spec2+ and it did not do this which enabled me to use low end torque to pull out of low RPM ranges with ease. Doing that loads the clutch the most and when the dual disk makes vibration... is it slipping at the pressure plate or between the disks?

Found a couple threads on this from other forum. Seems like quite a few people experience a noise similar to what you are describing. Makes me rethink my decision to go with the RST that I haven't installed yet.

I'm finding the same thing. I have to pull a lower gear in some corners to keep the RPMs higher.

Just drove my car today and this is what I did. Don't hear the sound much at all if driven this way. Still love the way the clutch feels, sweet!

Guys, I can tell you that all the RST's we've installed dont exhibit that issue. Dont take my word for it, call McLeod and get their spin on it. When installed properly they dont make any "clanking" sounds. A very slight vibration sensation can be present, but its very slight and not very common. Give us a call if youd like to discuss what problem you may be having.

With a somewhat complex clutch, its easy to not do the job right. Its always best to go to a shop that has experiance in dealing with the parts their putting on your car and not just say "we can do that".

I have the same issue, and I am pretty sure Jason is right.

For my car, my guess is the clearance on the first disc is not set up correctly. The installer is supposed to put the flywheel, adapter, first disc and center plate on then check for clearance and drag. Based on how mine reacts, I am pretty sure the shop that installed mine didn't do that.

That being said, the pedal feel and the grip of this clutch is still amazing. Just get a competant McLeod installer.

I don't have any clanking as well, the only thing i have is that vibration you mentioned and i get it in 4th at 1500-1900 RPM. Since you are aware of the presence of the vibration, any idea on what exactly causes it? Other than that small issue that doesn't bother me the McLeod clutches are the best I've ever used.

McLeod RST and 4.10 gear installed today. What a difference! No vibration issues yet, but I only have 100 miles or so on it though. My only issue right now is there seems to be some play in the pedal, was told it would go away. It already seems to feel a little better already. I also wanted to say that the 4.10 gear is THE gear to get in my opinion. I had a 3.55 and 3.90 in this car before and the 4.10 feels a lot better. You can launch from second with no issues.

Jason, I'm going to try and make it to san Antonio for the show. If you have time, would you be able to look at my car. I'm not happy with the sound my rst clutch is making since it was installed 2 wks ago.

Josh, don't start your car off in second...it's not good for the engine.

Jason, why is it bad to launch from second gear? Is it only if you do a slow start? What about a hard launch from 2500 rpms? Haven't tried that yet. My brother has a 335i and when he launches from 2nd he improved 0-60 times considerably since there is no shift required to reach 60. He went from 4.1/4.2 to 3.89 secs 0-60.

Josh, *it could take me a considerable amount of time to fully explain why not to do it. *But here's the short version, faster or not it puts additional stress on the motor to start in second. *You don't have to take my advise but if your worried about your 60' times, address the reason for traction loss to begin with.*

Its very common with twin disk clutches, I have it on mine and alot of ppl do too.
Chatter is typically due to improper break in and/or improper use. I usually sped 30-45 mins in car showing someone how to properly use a twin disc, none I'm aware of have any chatter.

It's hard to found a McLeod specialist here in France....
I know a very good mecanician, who works on sports cars like Ferrari, and i hope i could make the job for my clutch...
Is there a "notice" with the clutch?

Any Houston Saleen owners have a shop they recommend that can look at my extreme? This rst clutch noise is really bugging me, would like to get it looked at ASAP. Thanks.

I have the shop that did mine, (I hope) they are going to fix my dragging/disengaging issue with shims from McLeod. If the problem is resolved I can point you that way. IF the shims don't fix it, it will be due to bad parts.

Little question: do you know if the "stocks" FW on Saleen are equilibrated with the engine...? (if it's possible...)
