Default AFCO believer

well today it was 102 in areas of Maryland. Picked the saleen up from the shop and was doing some spirited driving and unfortunately some stop and go. Plugged in the SCT to monitor intercooler temps. Temp never got over 140 degrees, even in some traffic. Was mostly hovering around 136. Had the car driving for an hour and 45 minutes straight coming home. Very impressed. Running the DP afco with fans and stock tank.
Believe it or not its 3 am and 88 degrees right now too. What a heat wave!!

I think I may need to pick one of these up soon... My temp gauge is always 1/2 to 3/4 of the way up since it has been so hot around this year... Seems to me like there is definate room for improvement there over the stock system

With all this hype around the afco's I think I'm gonna buy one. Can you add fans to the regular dual pass afco unit?

You can, but its substancially smaller in surface area. The non-fanned unit is slightly less than 6" tall so you end up running a 5.5" fan which doesnt flow nearly the same air. The AFCO PRO (or fanned unit) is 8" tall and mounts twin 8" fans moving approx 1600cfm each.

To give you an idea, the non fanned unit front surface area is just about 100sq inches while the AFCO PRO is over 150sq inches of surface area. So not only are you getting the fans the difference, but its 50% larger!

Afco pro here and a 7.5 spal fan fit perfectly. is the fanned unit the same as pro minus the fans? the reason i ask is it sounds like there is only 2 models. i bought mine new without fans and it measures nearly 9 inches tall.

Charlie,

The Pro unit (fanned) is 50% larger!!! Its surface area is 150+sq inches vs. the just over 100 of the non Pro unit.

There are some people who would benefit from just the upgrade. But if your in a warm climate or are racing, the Pro unit is worth EVERY penny! Ill post a vid where a Saleen Extreme owner was tearing up the track doing 25 min circuits and the temps were AMAZINGLY cool!

I will definitely be going with one of these after I go to a different pulley! It gets blistering hot here and I can only imagine how much it will help.

Scott,

Early morning or 5-6pm PST is the best time to catch me.

Jason, when I left you shop my AIT went up higher than usual, I checked and the small stock reservoir was half full; where did the water go? no drip drip. I can see the benefit of a larger reservoir, for the temp to fluctuate with a few ounces of water low was not good. thing a bubble of air was circulating? The bars and mesh are fine too.

Joe, I don't know why your IAT's went up after you left the shop. We reinstalled your fascia grille and put rear lower control arms on, we never touched your cooling system.

But as far as the reservoir being half full, there's no excitement there... At that point you were ounces low, maybe 8. Since you live in the desert that's a normal evaporation amount since you probably checked it last or when we installed your AFCO months ago, even if you don't drive it much. When you run a 70% water mix, it will evaporate quicker than a 50/50 coolant mix. You should be checking ALL your fluids at every oil change.

It very well could have been an air pocket. I suggest that everyone pop their rad caps everytime the engine is cool and they have the hood up. Just unscrew it and let the air pressure out. It's a good habit. I have a tendency to do that to cars when they come in, lol.

Let me clear that up, I was just commenting about leaving your shop because it was hot out. You never messed with anything related to cooling; it was a long HOT! drive back in some traffic. Thanks for the primo job and I did feel a difference with the control arms. Seems tighter or a bit more responsive when applying the gas. Thanks for the gas too, I do appreciate the stand by your work garantee.

Ah ok, I was a little confused with your first message. Glad to hear you love the control arms! The BMR's are our favorites!

Just bought the dual fan unit because I can't stand the heat soak anymore from my thrashed stock HE. I guess we'll see once I get this installed as it'll allow me to go get my CAI and tune done.

Wondering if I should do a smaller pulley at the same time I'm getting tuned?

I would go on and add a pulley as well. It would save you a little bit of money in the long run. But you would probably need injectors and fuel pumps as well.

I've got the fuel pump, would just need to install. Perhaps I do injectors, fuel pump, crank pulley, 2.75 S/C pulley, CAI and tune all at once?

Someone tell me I'm nuts and to stop spending money- please.

Yeah, shipping kills me on this stuff from Cali. I'm sure between Charly and I we could fill in part time and help run things!

Brad,

For East coast customers where the vendor is Central or East Coast we drop ship. There's no sense bringing it all the way to CA to ship back to you!

Maybe you could work for us, but Charly??? That guy would leave a drool trail on the floor everytime a new part came in!

I totally get that- but I think I still saved a little money because shipping was free and I found it on sale. The other saving grace was the fact that I was able to use PayPal, where I had some cash stored so the fiance is okay with it.

I'm sure I'll be buying more parts from you guys in the future!

Brad, I wont beat you up about this...but I want you to know we will always try to match a "apples vs. apples" competitior. And since we are the largest West Coast Distributer, their not buying cheaper then we are. So if you'd like, let us know what legit deal you have and if we can match it, then we all score.

Just so everyone knows, we accept Paypal, Credit Cards, Cash, Check, Money Orders, Grandparents that can cook, etc.

I appreciate the heads up on that Jason. I purchased from American Muscle for $610 shipped. This reflects a 6% coupon code.

You just cant beat Walmart. When pricing is $769.99 and they sell them for $160 cheaper...below cost it makes us done with them.

Yeah- honestly they're on sale for the month of August, and I think that's where most of the cost break comes from.

I've purchased with you in the past and will continue to do so. Which reminds me, do you have any of the lower front grilles in stock?

I just got off the phone with one of the head people at AFCO. Apparently there were several companies up in arms about this as Walmart has a tendency to do this. They have severely violated AFCO's map policy and terms and conditions of sale. I noticed that they are out of stock on them, and Im hoping that they will be for quite some time...wink wink.

For us to compete with them selling it this cheap would cause us and every other dealer to loose money as the cost is higher than that. But from what im being told is they are selling off old inventory bought at the lower cost from some time ago. I would expect to see them back up to retail shortly since even they cannot buy it that cheap.

My laugh or revenge is when they look as stupid as they will once someone calls them for any kind of tech help and they wont be able to answer any of those questions. LOL, sorry for the rant!

On another note, I think we have a few grilles left on the latest batch.

I was okay with the beer- I found the pizza fee ludicrous though! Too bad there's no other shop with availability in my area.

Lol! It would definitely be cooler working on your car! My garage stays at around 70-75 being insulated and having a really good garage door. Btw, I can hook Saleen brothers up on garage doors .
