Default MJA/RevStone SPV cars

I was taking a stroll down memory lane looking back at some of the pictures and promotional material of the 2010 SPV 435-S and S281, and the 2011 SPV S302... what happened to these cars and the parts made for them?

Where does Steve, Saleen as a company, and the SOEC community stand on these cars? Are they Saleens red headed step-children? Or just written off as complete imposters?

Anyone ever saw one on the road or meet an owner outside of the MJA/RS/SPV "family"?

The MJA/ Revstone/ Speedlab vehicles are not a "step child."

Last we knew, the folks @ Saleen in Corona have stated they do not have production records for the MJA/ Revstone/ Speedlab vehicles.

Last I knew, Steve Saleen will not sign a MJA/ Revstone/ Speedlab vehicle or documentation relating to one.

Servicing and parts replacement for these vehicles fall onto Revstone or their parent (?) company.

Last I knew, there were no inventory of appearance parts for the 2010-12 Revstone vehicles. What odds/ends currently existing in MI is it.

I see. Always wondered how things would turn out after the dust settled. I kind of feel bad for the owners of those cars.

Agree to disagree. I think the SMS cars look amazing. I'll admit I liked the interior of the SPV S281/S302... But the SMS Mustang interior is awesome as well. The old Saleen Speedstar wheels that SPV used on the S-Line cars looked great. The SMS wheels have yet to grow on me. But the body of the SMS is just plain beautiful.

Davesike,

Buddy Saleen needs people like you who are in the business promoting them, not taking about their demise. Shelby and Saeen are not in the same group, Shelby are for the masses who want what everyone else has.

it wasn't meant to be a shot at them.
I love my saleen to pieces and love how unique it is but a Shelby is hardly for the masses at 67000 dollars..

its a bit disappointing that after bout a year having company back we now have mats and third brake lights for our cars.

I hope at all turns out well...
ill have you know I was the one who got my boss to order an sms but it took too long to actually get the car so we hadda pull out..
so im a fan just disappointed...

I hear you on the parts and I know they are working on it and I know you have been hearing that for over a year. They are trying VERY hard it takes time and lots of $, much different industry when he started it all.

Down here Shelbys are ALL over the place, in a friends neighborhood of a little over 800 homes there are over 30 Shelbys and One Fox boday Saleen and one 2005 Style. So for me I see at least 10 a day.

Greg I couldn't agree with you more. A lot of dealerships did not even know Saleen was still in existence. I went to my local Ford dealership to drive a new Mustang so I had a baseline for my test drive in the new Saleen/SMS car. They told me Saleen was out of business and the reasons they were out of business were no where close to the truth. The word needs to get out there, so more people get the real story.

I told Saleen about this and they ordered a car from them to convert. Soon after I brought my SMS car to the dealership. Just about every sales person was out there, with their cell phones snapping pics of it. I spent a good 40 minutes describing the car for them.

As far as Saleen is concerned, they have my car fixing some minor things on it as well as changing all the badges on the car to Saleen, including the brake calipers. The only thing on the car that will say SMS are the seats and the SMS serial badges. They have sent me photos of the progress of the car. It is a lot different than what I went through after Saleen "retired" from the older company.

As far as the other cars are concerned, I like mine better, but there were some good points to the other car as well. It will be interesting to see the future of those cars. They could be worth a lot just because of their rarity and history, but who knows.

All I can say is that I love my new car! And in that old Saleen tradition, it still turns heads wherever I go.

I'll throw my 2 cents in since I'm an ex-owner. Like Greg said they tell you parts are coming right around the corner, year later not a lot happening. When I went to see Steve in glen Bernie for the SMS debut there they brought two cars down. The two cars were a joke, the fit and finish was a mess and that's the cars they brought to show off! How is Saleen as a business making any money? They sure aren't selling cars and parts, so I think that's a lot of the problem. They don't have revenue to get it really up and going full steam. I still love that Saleen I just sold, but too uncertain of a future to deal with. If he ever gets really up and going I could see myself going back way down the road. But the track record needs to improve, just my 2 cents

The three vehicles that Bob Bell Ford stocked were the first 2010 SMS 460s produced. Yes, the cosmetic quality was lacking.

I seen one of those cars at jdm..it was bought back either lemon law or bob bell bought it back..yes it was in rough shape..but hey this isn't a beat up session,
just sad to see where it is at this point..
when I bought my car it was between a saleen and a Shelby.
I went with the saleen because of its looks and exclusivity.
but now with the 5.8 engines in the shelbys and all the other upgrades its hard to look past um..even if they r more common.

Mustangs now have their own production facility. The Camaros and Challengers share the other.

Bill Vaughn is doing the quality control before shipping. The 2013s & 2014s will not have build quirks.

My 2011 is fairly tight. Bill is taking the QC to heart. They have a lot of projects going on. I saw some parts for the 2005-2009 being worked for reproduction. I don't think everyone understands the scope of the work that needs to be done to get some of these requests to become reality. We just need to have some patience.

Trust me guys they hear and are listening to your comments and concerns. As werecow said the scope and funding for these efforts are hugh. And in some instances almost cost prohibitive, yet Steve still wants to do it. I know for those who want/need it now, this isn't the answer you want to hear. But they are working towards it.

That's good news. I'm hoping the saleen brand rises to its former prominence !!

It will come back but putting anything into this current body style is a loss leader as it is done to death. Next years all new Mustang is where to revive Saleen in a big way.

BTW did a new S351E ever make it out the door? Still waiting on actual vehicle pictures, some should have been out the door by now. Excitement is one thing but actual rubber meeting the road is another. It is the rubber meeting the road follow through aspect people have always questioned or had concerns.

I saw a photo of Molly Saleen signing a MJ/Rev posters! (It was the poster with the red saleen and police car both women on in it)
what's up with that then?
I saw it posted on this forum... I thought that was weird when I saw that as well.

Guys,

I have been in this hobby since the beginning and I know how frustrating it can be to get stuff from them but they do eventually come through. I also know how much it means to them to provide the services and parts to everyone, as well has how much they have personally given up to make all this possible for us.

I don't necessarily agree that the current style is overdone, but there is a lot of competition and the economy is at least recovering.

While Steve teased at an SMS 351X a couple of years ago, the first of the next-generation 351 cars is a Saleen-branded Speedster expected to be unveiled on April 21 as Saleen 351 #2013-01.

Instead of what we in the past called an "E" or "Extreme" car, likely it will instead be called simply the 351 in the base 700-hp form. There is also a 351X ("X" for "Extreme" if you will) in the future with substantially more horsepower -- a coupe with some unique body features as well as the requisite boost in performance. "X" has already been used in the SMS and SaleenChallenger and I think also Saleen Camaro offerings.

The "X" and "Extreme" names are subject to change, of course... at least for the time being.

Not sure Jim but all ordering forms etc. I received directly from Saleen on the 351 are labeled "2013 Black Label S351 Extreme". These are the actual ordering forms sent to me by Hans Meyer, VP of Sales at Saleen. So I would say they are using the Extreme name just as I wrote.

Also when I was referring to the existing car, it has been basically the same body style since 2005 so I stand by my comment that it is pretty long in the tooth. Why put a ton of development into the existing car, when you know it will be changing next year to a 100% new car? Doesn't make good business sense for Saleen to put money into major development for the existing body.

The 351 nomenclature seems to have changed at Saleen, according to insiders -- from what has been in "print" -- as actual release nears. But expect to see both a standard 351 as well as a higher-horsepower "351 E/Extreme/X" being available, perhaps the latter to carry the body style through its last year of life.

The 2005-09 and 2010-2014 Mustang offerings pretty much mirror the same scenario we saw in 1994-98 and 1999-2004, so I don't see any point in Saleen waiting for 2015 models to arrive from Ford.

If you look at the Anniversary cars, for example, Saleen has traditionally introduced new technology, features and styling cues on them regardless of what Ford offers, since they rely on what Ford offers and can't change that.

The "E/Extreme/X" 351 Saleen motor is a long time coming and I think will be what sets the car apart from anything else called a Mustang, no matter the body style.
