This is the same kit as used on the SSC.

Close- the SSC mufflers were actually the 2.5" kit.

Where'd you get that info? I see you worked on them but why were the tips 2.25" And the later SC's used the SSC kit on them. They were 2.25.

Just to add to why I posted the Dynomax kit. This is a picture of the underside of 93 SC #02 at PAS this past summer. Note the part number on the intermediate pipe going from the H pipe to the muffler. 42889 is the part number. Cross reference that to this http://www.summitracing.com/parts/WLK-42889/ and the pipe diameter is 2.25. The SC's used the same exhaust kit as the SSC. And every SSC I've seen that was low mileage unmolested has the original 2.25" "trumpet" tips on them. The design of the tips changed in 1990 but the diameter stayed the same.

Here's from the backside. And the car is all original save for the aftermarket H pipe and a set of replacement headers because the originals started to leak.

Goodson,

You have a keen eye for detail.

During the summer of the SSC production run, one of my duties was to install the exhaust tips. I literally had to use a saw to cut off the brand new tips and then slide on the SSC tips. I don't recall any Dynomax decals still in tact, but then again, I didn't do the final inspections.

Back in late 89-90, my friend and I were the first to have Saleen Racecraft subframe connectors installed on a customer car. At the same time, we also had the Dynoxmax cat-back exhaust kits installed. They were the 2.5" kit which I believe have been discontinued- there is a close kit 17455, but that appears to have the GT turn down tips. You can still piece together the individual parts, but it's pricer.

3 months ago, I needed to replace my system and ended going with the 2.25" kit you mentioned since it was the closest kit and a great price ($215 - $75 rebate). Unless the SC you photographed hasn't been driven in the last 18 years, those labels would probably brown and come off after time. My shop didn't remove the labels and they look just as in your pictures, but my car is in storage most of the time.

So although I do not have any literature to base this on (2.5 vs 2.25"), all I can do is pass along my personal experience. Either way, you can't go wrong- just a few more ponies out of the 2.5" set up.

From what I've seen the SSC's had the pipes cut as you describe so that the tip could go on. I've just not seen them (the low mileage unmolested ones) with a 2.5" exhaust system. Saleen did offer the 2.5" kit in the catalog and you could have it installed at the shop but I've not seen any factory serialized Fox Saleen with an exhaust system larger than 2.25". I'm sure there may be exceptions but I'm going by what I've seen on documented cars. Also, not trying to be argumentative here, just conversing.

I was lucky to get that exhaust at the same time and got the rebate too. It's what's going on #4 as a "catalog" choice in my build just like the other 9 cars. A great deal.

I will admit to being detailed but that opens up a can of worms because it can be a blessing and a curse.

As far as I know that SC sat for a long time because the original owner passed on. I believe Chris is the 3rd owner. The car was driven but only for 2-3 years and then parked. Don't quote me on that though. I'm pulling that from the files in my brain of conversations I've had about the car. All based on memory. Mark L. would have the specific details. I've also seen other SC's with those tags still in tact on the exhaust tubes. Low mileage cars of course.

No worries....I didn't take any your posts as argumentative. It's good that there are still Fox Saleen owners who care about the smallest detail- I'm one of them.

The off-placement of decals, incorrect use of things can irritate me too.

In fact, my latest: trying to find a source for the Front Koni 8740 1121 special D red struts. After finding out my steering rack is leaking, my mechanic also noted that my front passenger strut is leaking (can't tell when driving, but i'm hoping that it was just excess power steering fluid since both my front control arms are covered with leaking PS fluid. Koni says they are discontinued and I've been trying to order (at a reasonable price) from a few places online. So far- 1 place took my order, but then replied no longer made by manufacturer.

Koni offered me the Yellow sport ones which I know are an upgrade, but I'm trying to keep things original Saleen spec.

Not sure if he has any left but I bought a set for #4 from PPI. All 6 of them that were used on the Saleen's. www.performancepartsinc.com

You can have them rebuilt. http://www.propartsusa.com/shockdept.html They'll do it for you. or here. http://www.truechoicekoniracingservi...cts/index.html Both are authorized by Koni for rebuilds/modification
