Q: Driving Your PJ?
Does anyone have a PJ that has over 20.000 miles on it. I am if it makes sense to keep the miles low on these cars. From what I have seen, the value has not been holding up very well, so why don't we just drive 'em and enjoy them more. I know that every time I get mine out I get an aweful lot of looks. Maybe we need to just drive the crap out them. I can't see where it is going to devalue the car that much. Does anyone else feel this way, or is it just me?

I tend to view the 2007 PJ... as I view the 1989 SSC.
If miles are kept low purely for possible future gain... we'll check back on this plan in 2027. I'll be in my 40s. |

I have had a weekend or fun car for the last twenty years. I tend to only put 2-3k miles on the fun car. I treat the PJ the same not because of collector value, but because I drive a company car during the week and my truck the so I can haul my dog most of the other time. If going out to dinner or a party or just for a fun drive I take the "fun" car.

I'm with Tony, at 63 years old keeping it for resale value doesn't enter into my thinking at all. I use the PJ sparing and the big reason is where I live in New England these kinds of cars sit for 5 months out of the year do to weather conditions. I received my PJ 12/2/06 and just broke 4K.

I have 3100 miles on mine and bought it in Feb '07. I had an '03 Cobra and an '01 Bullit which all three I purchased new. The 2 prior cars had only 2500 miles on them and I did not get any more $ than cars with 10,000 miles. I do not mean to make a daily driver out of the pj, but I think I will start taking road trips in it instead of my Tahoe. I really do not see that these cars will be collector cars for, like some one said, maybe in 2027. I will be 80 years old then. I think I will leave the car to my sons and let the 2 of them split what they can get for it. In the meantime, I plan to drive mine 3-5,000 miles per year.

I plan on taking the PJ to the Saleen NE and Mid Atlantic gathering at Orange County Choppers in mid August which is about 230 miles each way.

I can see both sides of thinking. I purchased mine in May 07 and just broke 1600 miles. I want to have fun in it but would also like it to be worth more in the future...with the way the economy is going it may be a long while, but it will change. I live in the northwest where I can only drive mine about 5 months out of the year also.

Mine is pretty much a weekend car, 9,800 miles.
I plan on enjoying it as much as possible. |

My PJ has less than 1,000 miles (dry weather/daytime driving only) but the new engine, suspension, clutch etc. have only 259 on them as of yesterday. I plan to drive it at some very contolled autocrossing events twice or so a year and idealy add approx. no more than 1,000 miles per year of ownership with a ceiling at no more than 10,000 miles. The original engine, drivetrain, suspension etc. has only a few hundred miles on it. I count myself very lucky to have other vehicles as daily and recreational drivers to enjoy. Just my .02 worth. Who knows, the way things are going if I live long enough mabey the environuts will ban high horsepower vehicles like ours.

I have been to the drag strip a couple of times and two road courses. Almost 16k miles. I bought mine to enjoy. I probably won't ever sell it, so I could care less about its resale value...

I guess owning 2 PJ's makes it easier to keep one low and use the other. Saying that #46 has 1000 miles and #45 which I have just got back from the convertor has 13000 miles and goes great.
I have now got the Super Shaker going on #45 and I do plan to race "Hill Climb" this car have already entered it in a race early November which brings me to a problem JDM has my SCT Tuner for the Super Shaker upgrade but I am having problems getting it back from them so if someone can give Jim a hurry up I would appreciate it. I really cannot see the values of these cars going up in the foreseeable future so we should just enjoy them for what they are TOYS. Got to meet Parnelli 2 weeks ago he also has 2 cars #1 & #3 he occasionally uses #3. Tony South Australia

Awesome pics. That PJ looks better than those old German beaters any day.
I have 16xxx miles and went to the drag strip yesterday and ran a new personal best of 11.006 @ 126.22. Good times.

JB, your car is beautiful. I thought that it had sold long ago. Used to admire it when I lived in Baton Rouge. Couldn't believe that someone used one everyday. Lucky you.

Yeah, I can't have a car like the PJ and NOT drive it! It's time to find a new owner to love it though... It's just sitting and I hate to see it not get used...
Peace!

PJ - On-Track
I'm new to the Forum. I have # 496. Most of my 5,000 miles have been on-track or to the track. Have run Cal Speedway, Willow Springs, Button Willow and Laguna Seca. Mods include: Roll Bar, 5-Point Harness, Front/Rear Brake Cooling, Cold-Air Induction. Interested in hearing from others who have been on-track.

And Welcome to SOEC! There are two Extreme owners participating in a VARA event in February at Buttowillow, I think... by chance do you have plans to run that?

Current value of PJ's
Can someone give me an idea of what low mileage pj's are bringing? Has anyone purchased one or sold one lately? Ihave 3,500 miles on mine and testing the temperature.

I've got about 19k on mine. I'm asking $29,999.00. Which in a nornal market I feel is pretty low...but in the current market I feel that it's a fair offering. Considering that I have another $5k in mods into it, my price is pretty low...but...at this moment in time, I think that's what it will take to sell it...
That being said, I'm not seeing a lot of them for sale out there... There were a few on eBay at one time, but I don't see them out there any more. I also haven't seen any for sale at any of the forums that I visit. If someone is looking for one, the supply is limited... I won't be "giving mine away"... ;)

I have a little over 5000 on my #39 delivered 12/2/06 but its not for sale. However, in the next year or two I may buy a second PJ and have all the spare parts I will ever need.

That is a fair price IMO. I work for a Saleen dealer and I try to keep up on the Saleen market. I have seen low mile example sell in the low-mid 30's, with a pair on the DuPont registry for ~$40k.

One Person's Opinion - Drive It!
PJ: One of the best GT cars ever made! It's basically little Johnny's version of grandma's Thunderbird. A bit big for Europe, but perfect for USA, Australia etc. Good mileage at 22 to 24 mpg, luggage space, smooth at speed, good turning radius, easy to park, easy to repair, manageable in traffic (did San Jose evening, peak rush hour no problem) plenty of power for wide-open western states and excellent passive safety features including rollover. Other, and newer, GT's may be more comfortable and feature rich, but if you want to DRIVE a car around the block, or coast to coast, this machine offers the full five-sensory experience, non-stop. I drive coast to coast and thought I would tire out, but I found the energy and only wanted more. If there is such a thing as driver's addiction, well then I have it when behind the wheel of the Saleen Parnelli Jones.
