You will have to locate either an NOS aluminum (or composite) version or hope to find a nice used Saleen vented hood.

Jess Albright mentioned Revstone Performance Vehicles were considering reproducing the composite version.

The S197 Saleen vented hood could be the first obsolete part for this generation of Saleen Mustangs.

Get with forum member Red Devil & get the TruFiber hood that is a replica of the SMS 25th. Saw one @ Fab Fords in April and fit and finish was amazing.

If someone wants to donate a Saleen hood in the SoCal area, I can likely get them made in composite or carbon fiber (and would give you a CF one back in return). But the Carbon Fiber RTF hood can be had for less than the Saleen Aluminum Hood.

But anyways, the RTF hoods are available in both Composite and Carbon Fiber from Hillbank Motorsports!

A carbon 2005-09 Saleen vented hood would go over well with the owners. Can a dented or mildly cracked OE Saleen hood be sacrificed for this project?

I will find out, it would depend how dented or where the crack is likely.

Why doesn't Saleen produce replacement hoods or at least sell the rights so that a true replacement can be made. I've had offers from a couple of people to buy my hood, noting out there I like more. If mine wasn't on a boat on it's way to Hawaii I would let it get used and take a carbon fiber in return. I had offer it to True Fiber but they didn't want to make them for what ever reason. I would love to replace the rear wing with carbon fiber also.

How long would you need the hood for?

I've given up trying to find an SC vented hood. That is why I have decided to go Super Shaker when I supercharge my 3V. Well, that and the better sound, and the better low end grunt at stoplights

From what I hear, there will be a hood soon (don't think its gonna be from Saleen), but it should be available in both Carbon and Fiberglass.

Happy bidding. Last thing I'm interested in is offending someone over a hood. Its not that important to me. Good luck...

Just a gripe: If Saleen is stopping car production so they can refocus on aftermarket performance parts then where does this leave us?

How hard could it be to call up the hood's manufacturer and say make us some more. Shouldn't Saleen own the rights to the molds or the CAD program used to make these the hoods.

I am confused, worried, and thinking I might want to sell the car to avoid future headaches. Of course I just recently spent over 3k to swap to the aluminum hood and have my antenna shaved.

Saleen Performance / HPA did not pay all their suppliers before selling assets to MJA. Original castings and molds should exist with these suppliers of various components. Though, sometimes it is easier to start over with a new supplier and new engineering. Because of the legacy cost.

Thanks, that answers my question, but leaves me in a larger state of unease. Fingers crossed that if they fall, SMS will step up.

Yeah that's what happens when there are no more for sale out there.. I'm not surprised that a bunch of people want that hood, considering not just people that own Saleens try to get their hands on them when there is one available. I am just going to repair mine, I'm sure someday these extremes will be worth a pretty penny with all the original parts..

Seems like I type (and James types) the follow line of text 1,000,000 times for the owners that either cannot read or have no ability to process.

The controlling interest of Saleen Performance Inc, that company that produced Saleen vehicles from 1993 through late 2008 was sold to Hancock Park Associates in 2003. HPA ran the daily affairs of Saleen Inc, placed their managment in executive positions, merged Saleen with ASC, and were the ones that sold the assets of Saleen Inc in early 2009.

HPA/PNXT/Saleen Inc is the entity currently being sued by the unpaid suppliers.

One thing that gets lost (of many)... is the amount of money the ASC executives blew through in 2008 while running Saleen.

My bodyshop got back to me and they still have my old fiberglass hood. It only has a few rock chips in the paint.

I don't live in the California area, but if you are interested and willing to pay shipping from Kirkland WA you can use it for as long as you like.

Saleen vehicle replacement parts always had a habit of becoming scarce.

This is why we stated many times after MJA sent over-stock and blem Saleen parts to Found-A-Deal, selling for half or a third of retail... to buy, buy, buy.

The diagonal emblem is the way it (logo) was designed to display. Both the Kona Blue 2010 SMS 460 #01 and the 2010 Sterling SMS 460X #01 have the emblems mounted in this fashion.

All remaining 2010 SMS 460s and all 2011-Present SMS 302s have the emblems mounted without the diagonal tilt.

Davesike,

I understand your upset and with good reason. I stay neutral on all politics on here, but I can say I've never met the other Dave to my knowledge....but he's always here to help. Trust me I have had my issues and complications with things in the past and present. But there not the only company to have issues that challenge the legacy and heritage we've all come to love at one point or another in the brand.

Companies discontinue things all the time for one reason or another. But I can tell you Saleen is working on bringing the hoods back into availability - when is not on the table. Please dont rush and call Jess / Saleen and ask "WHEN" as they will let everyone know when there available again. Just know it's being worked on. If I hear anything I'll be sure to bring you up to speed.

Davesike,

Thanks Man! I was worried you'd be ****ed at reading my perspective. Thats a nice looking hood, however any aftermarket hoods are going to have issues. The TF hoods seemingly have the least amount of issues of an aftermarket hood. But there's very few hoods (aftermarket) id ever buy. I'd buy a take off from a SOEC member or fix yours. Shoot me a pic of it, id love to see what your dealing with.

There good quality hoods, but for me the Techco hood only worked with the butterflys IMO. Im not a fan of mesh screen as a front grille. The only other issue with their hoods is the heat extractors are directly open so rain and water can pour on the engine unless they've changed that on this new hood. But if your car never see's rain and you dont mind covering the engine for car washing duties, TF makes great hoods in our limited experience.

My advice, fix your hood. You'll spend alot less than you think.

TruFiber hoods do not have vents that directly into the engine. They all are similar to the Saleen hoods and have internal venting, but the openings are above the air box. I defy you to find anyone who has had a problem with a TruFiber hood fitment that wasn't user error or a problem with the body panels on their car being incorrectly aligned. Truth be told, TF products are higher quality and better fitment than 99% of OE parts you will ever find.

Jared,

The question isnt whether their hoods fit right or not. We have the 3" Cowl hood on one of our customer show cars and their GREAT! But my address was with the heat extractor vents on the sides of the hood as they are open through to the engine and every hood they make ive seen them this way. On your website pictures you can even see into the engine compartment and even make out the parts.

Davesike asked my opinion and I gave it to him....its a great hood...but not always practical for a daily driver. Here's a picture of a 2010 Mustang with a TF hood with the heat extractor vents.

jason expressed my concern with the tf hoods to a tee really..i didnt like that they were open directly into engine compartment as well..
has that been addressed at all..?
otherwise i love the hood as well..
also the vent design looks like a drain near a pool or something..no offense..they come silver but i guess i could paint it black

I might pull my hood off, store it, and put one of those 25th look a likes on the car so that I can store my original hood in case I ever want to sell my car. I didn't think the idea of a cars hood getting damaged would be a tramatic event until now.

I pray everyday now, that I hope I am never in Davesike's position - THAT SUXS !!! Has anyone Noticed that after the anouncement of GPV not making cars after 2012, Jess Albright has been a Ghost on the boards - This would be a perfect ime for him to tell us he has our backs and they will have hoods for us owners shortly.

I also hope that they or someone makes the hood for us...
But if I can't find or get a hood, I'd have to consider upgrading to a plain hood and adding a shaker..
