Default Anyone know what happened too... (Saleen SR 3V conversion)

Curious if anyone has heard about that 3v conversion for that 2001 Saleen SR. Last I read it had issues with exhaust manifolds clearance and crankshaft position sensor issue that kept throwing an error code.

I am no expert on the difference between the engines, but the way I understood everything I read on this project, they were trying to use a 3v engine with a 2v computer with the above challenges with the effort. I know other things were done, like locking down the camshafts, a custom throttle cable, etc...

This maybe a dumb question as it seems to obvious to me, leading me to believe there is more to this then I know; but why can't the 3v heads be used on the 2v block, thus using its stock crankshaft positioning sensor?

Aslo, if one could use the 3v heads on the 2v block, what would the compression ratio be?

So I stopped by and the guy at MMR said that no one is there anymore from the guys that did the build only guy left is the owner of MMR. He did say he talks to the guy on a regular basis and that he is extremely happy with the car. The car is in Texas with the owner. I gave him my email hoping we can get the owner of the car in here and see what he has to say about his car.

Trust me guys I am disappointed wanted to hear more info about the build. Hopefully the owner of the car gets on here and talks about it.

I don't know, but Logan motorsports say they have successfully swapped 3v engines into the new sn95 chassis.

Default Saleen SR Photo's - DFWstangs.net

I'm not very knowledgeable about the SR (Dave should chime in at some point), but a fellow member of DFWstangs knows the owner and got to drive it recently. At this point, I have reason to believe that it's located at Alternative Automotive Technologies in Michigan. Below are recent photos:

I got pictures of the SR at Irvine, Ca. back in April 2007 ,2 V series IV , Sean told me the owner brought it in for some updated tuning , ect.
Then got to see it June 2010 at Alternative auto, June 2010 , sounded great, they were working on last min. bugs for pickup from owner soon.
had the new 3 V motor in it.

Sure I have them , How do I post up pictures here. Or you can send me your email and I can send them to you. I have pictures of some really cool Saleens. Like the 05 black Saleen changed into P J consept car ( later S/c and 07 5 spooke wheels) , 02 P J S/C , 03 P J S/C , 01, 03, 10, S/C Saleen 2005, but I have heard 01 was sold at auction without S/C (had problems and Saleen took it off and put back N/A). Saleen , Irvine in April 12 2007 full of P J SAleens. Much more. Videos even.

Talking with Sean Saleen I think thats what he told me. Someone correct me if im wrong...

The above Extreme Rainbow SR is a 1997 version built using a 1995 S351 without an engine. Displayed at SEMA and at 9 Whatney. Sold by Saleen Performance early last decade.

Different from the New Edge Ocean SR vehicle that started this thread.

Ahhh Thanks Dave I didnt know that on the SR it shows even that it has the 01 bumper to. Cool. Sean told me that the SR here had some kind of race engine in it then they put the 2 valve Series IV S/C blower in , then Alternative Auto put the 3 valve Series VI blower in . Thanks for straighting up my mess.... LOL.

The '97 SR Widebody in Extreme Rainbow was built for FIA homologation and for show, though it never had an engine (and I believe still doesn't). It is in a private collection.

You don't get a hat with a 1-year membership; only a 2-year. If you'd like to "upgrade", PayPal another $25.

You will be getting a poster and membership decal, but I am behind on getting those out.

On paper... if someone would have ordered a road going SR in 2000 or 2001, the vehicle was said to be equipped with a traditional supercharged 351 via the defunct S351. In 2002-04 the street going SR was said to be equipped with an S281 Extreme drivetrain.

I was under the impression the literature was incorrect for 2001 as the 351 no longer met emissions compliance. I asked Saleen, the company, as I wanted an S351 for my 2001 and they said it was no longer available due to emissions requirements.

Thanks Jim and Dave for the info on the SR. I saw a picture of a white one somewhere... I always wanted to see this car in person. I did see the newer SR right before Saleen vacated the Ca plant. It had a 2v 4.6 in it at the time. I snapped a few photos of it. The car looks amazing in person. Pictures just don't so it justice.

In your picture, isn't that an Extreme supercharger? Its a little bit bigger then a Series IV. Wish I could find one.

Correct. The S351 was nolonger available after December 1999 for emissions compliance. We should view the SR as a spec racer. It was offered mainly for Saleen Performance to field the car in motorsports. We should recall the S7 was the front-running Saleen race car for 2001 and beyond. In addition, the factory racing 1999 and 2000 SRs were used as mules to test the S7 engine.

That is awesome that MMR put a 3V supercharged motor in the car. It really updates the look and performance of an awesome looking Saleen.
