Default Got another Saleen: Techco touched 2005 S281 S/C

Received my new (to me) 2005 Saleen last week and thought I would share some pictures. I bought it from California so before I had it shipped all the way to Illinois I had 281 Motorsports install a T56 Magnum XL with an ACT clutch and flywheel as well as perform a thorough inspection since I bought it sight unseen. Jason and the team did a great job and really went the extra mile to make sure everything was done right. This thing is absolutely incredible. It pulls like a freight train, but is very smooth and controllable. The transmission is just a pleasure to use and is very precise and easy to shift. Overall, VERY happy and I now have two black Saleens in my garage, but I can't convince my wife to keep both so the 2006 is for sale. Until then I will be rollin' like Barricade :)

Some highlights:

TECHCO 100mm Cold Air Kit
TECHCO Ported GT Throttle Body
TECHCO Ported Saleen Supercharger Manifold
TECHCO CNC Ported Extreme FLOW Cylinder Heads
TECHCO High Performance Camshafts
TECHCO 5.0L Cylinder Block Bore and Hone with Torque Plates
TECHCO 5.0L Forged Rotating Assembly (Pistons/Rods/Crank/Bearings)
JBA Shorty Headers
JBA High Flow Cats
60LBS Fuel Injectors
Saleen Watts Link
Trutrac Diff
QA1 Rear Adjustable Shocks
Meizer Electric Water Pump
Baer 13" Rear Slotted Brakes
Saleen Upgraded Heat Exchanger with upgraded pump
Chicane Strut Tower Brace
T56 Magnum XL 6 Speed Transmission
Dynotech AL Driveshaft
ACT Twin Disc Clutch and Lightened Billet Steel Flywheel
Progress LCA
CHE LCA Relocation Brackets

Beautiful car! It looks more sinister balcked out, especially not being able to see the heat exchanger. I have a black Saleen as well, two actually, and the heat exchanger is all black except for one shiny bolt. Got to paint that sucker! Driving me buts...lol

Looks awesome bro. Welcome to the murdered out club. Haha! Do you have an AFCO on your other ride? Maybe it should be swapped over.....?

Thanks! I have the AFCO on the other one, but the new one has the Saleen upgraded HE that is even bigger than my AFCO and it has twin SPAL fans. It's a great unit. What I like is that it is wider than the AFCOs and takes up the whole opening to get the best use of the available airflow. The AFCO units are tall and some of the airflow is blocked by the bumper. Quick comparison:

Stock- 26.5 x 5.25 x 2.125
AFCO Pro - 22.44 x 9 x 2.25
AFCO Pro With fans - 26 x 11.5 x 2.25
Saleen Upgraded HE - 34 x 7 x 2.125

They look great! The all blacked out look is growing on me. What made you decide to buy another black Saleen?

I swapped out the Saleen HE with dual fans for an AFCO Pro last month (Thanks 281!!!). Mainly because it was mangled by bugs and road debris. But also because my temps were pretty high. So far, the IATs havent changed much at all. I saw 150 on the highway, going 80 in 95 degree heat. I hear lots of testimonies about people's IAT gauge not even budging with the AFCO and yet when its 65 out, mine is still holds around 120 constantly.

I was really not even in the market for a Saleen when this one became available. I was extremely happy with what I had, but this is a very unique one with all of the upgrades being performed at Techco or Saleen and it has only 5000 miles on it. As far as the color, black is still my favorite for the Saleen, but if this one happened to be tungsten or alloy, I would have been fine with it. I was actually in the process of trying to find these exact wheels for my other car when this one became available :)

I am surprised you had heat issues with your upgraded Saleen HE. On my car the temp rarely moves off the bottom peg and when it does it recovers very quickly. I have an HE screen on its way from 281 motorsports to keep this one protected so it doesn't get banged up like yours did.

For reference on the HE it was over 90 deg today and I did a couple WOT runs and got temps up to 150. Within 1 min I was back down to just over 100.

I have the AFCO dual fanned unit and my gauge rarely gets to 150, even at WOT at 90 degrees. I really need to upgrade the electric water pump as well.

Not sure the pulley size. I measured the OD and it was 3", but I am not sure if that's where you are supposed to measure it. I do know I get about 12 psi on the boost gauge, but also noticed that at high rpms it bounces around. Looks like I might be getting some belt slip. Time for the mosaleen setup.

So cool and I'm so jealous Congrats! Awesome mods and the gloss black 5 spokes are killer. Its amazing how much more sinister the car looks with black wheels when parked next to one with the chromes. I'm in the process of converting to black graphics and wheels. I just gotta have that look.

I just returned from a late night cruise and I never had temps below 125. Its 73 outside right now. WOT gave me around 150 but after, it wouldnt drop down. No matter what gear/speed I was going. I stayed out of the boost on the freeway and no dice. Either, my car is different than others or I have a cooling system issue. I wonder if Ken of Chris have this issue with their 302Es.

Sorry for the hi-jack. I really like the new car! Congrats again.

No, this car is not an extreme. I would like to get a diffuser and splitter some day though.

Ah. I thought it was. I now see after actually reading the initial post instead of just admiring the photos... Haha

I seem to vaguely recall seeing this car at Techco back in the day. I bet I have some photos of it somewhere. I'll have to scrounge around to see if I can locate them.

Checked the pulley and belt size. 2.75" pulley with 108" belt. Gonna go with a shorter belt and get the mosaleen system installed tonight. Also installed the 281 motorsports HE screen and dipstick this weekend...

It is a Gentex GENK51a. It has the temp, compass, and homelink integrated.

I assume its not a straight plug in, is it? Do you need some kind of wiring harness?

It comes with a harness and instructions. You hook a constant and switched power source to it and run the temp sensor to the front of the car.

Went to the dyno today and have some updated numbers with proper SAE correction factor. Pretty pleased overall. I got third place with 561HP. A fox body race car made 673HP and there was a 1990 300ZX that put over 730HP down. Lots of other nice cars...2013 Viper (529HP) and a 911 (476HP).

I also wanted to mention that I don't trust the 15 psi Saleen boost gauge. I have seen it get around 12 psi on the street, but I don't pay too close of attention since I need to have my eyes on the road. I took videos of my boost gauge during my dyno pulls and it never got over 9 psi which is definitely not true. In addition, the needle was all over the place. I know I don't have belt slip since I installed the mosaleen system and the dyno curve is smooth.

Congrats man!! The car is sick! You should post up a sound clip, I wanna hear that monster! I think if you can figure out how to get more boost out of it and bring it up to 14psi or more you should break the 600whp mark.. With those mods, should be no problem! I'm just wondering why it's not getting past 9psi and it's got a 2.75" pulley. I am running a 10% OD crank pulley and the stock Saleen 2.87" pulley and the car makes 13.5-14.5psi on the dyno.

I think he is stating the guage isn't getting past 9 lbs, but the car is pushing 12 lbs. The gauges have never been spot on, more of an indicator of when you have boost than the actual amount.

Figured I would update this thread with my latest upgrades. I have been busy this spring:

CSF Radiator
Upgraded to 2007+ cooling lines and crossover
170 deg thermostat
Pioneer AVH-4000NEX Stereo (I can control volume, seek, source, and launch Siri right from my GT500 steering wheel)
Ambient Lighting center console
65mm FRPP throttle body
Cortex Watts Link
Griggs Coilovers
Welded and painted axle tubes
Moser axles
WMS Stealth Hood Pins
Replaced exterior badges and horn badge
Added factory weather strip to rear of hood where it meets cowl (allows you to get cold air from outside into the passenger compartment instead of sucking in hot engine air)

Installed last year:
BMR K-member
200 amp black powder coated custom 4G alternator
2010 louvered belly pan
Saleen HE Baffles
IW 10% OD crank pulley

Beautiful car... curious to all the plates you have under the front of the car. You make those? Does the one with the vents help? Those stealth hood pins are sweet, I couldn't even see them...lol How do they work?

Thanks! The front panel is from the Saleen baffle kit and the rear one is from a 2010 mustang. To be honest I don't know if they help a whole lot, but it is supposed to improve aerodynamics. The addition of those panels, the rear hood/cowl seal and the wms stealth hood pins have made my hood absolutely stable. No hood movement whatsoever. I don't have any pics of the hood pins, but you can go to wms performance to see their kit. They tie into the stock cable release and work really well.

I took a look at the website. I wonder if they will work with the newer body and/or fiberglass hoods. I'll have to call and check. Thanks for the info.

Went to a local car show today and they had a mobile dyno so I figured I would give it a shot since I added the throttle body and improved (but not eliminated) my belt slip. I was very happy with the results. 608 SAE Corrected HP at the wheels. Uncorrected it was 620RWHP. This was all on my street, 93 octane tune. Probably get 10 more HP with the 100 octane tune. Also saw Seethrough there with his sweet Barricade replica. Awesome car and workmanship!

Great numbers Josh. I checked the paperwork on the 8 rib pulley setup and my car is running the 2.95" pulley with 10% overdrive crank. I will let you know if there is any belt slip once I get it up to Tim for the dyno. I think the SC pulley came from Thumpr and the rest of the pulleys came through JDM so I don't know the brand.

Thanks for looking at that. I am very interested in your results. Please record your boost gauge so I can see if it fluctuates much. I would like to put an 8 rib pulley set together myself, if I can find the part numbers. I hear the parts are all from ford trucks. I would just need the supercharger pulley after that.

Another shot showing a comparison of my dyno pull from last year and this year. 55 HP increase and all I changed was the throttle body and swapped the 2.75 pulley for a 3.0 and installed a 10% OD crank pulley for less belt slippage. S/C rpm with this setup was almost identical to last year's.

Nice Seelye! Did you try at all to use the OD with the 2.75 pulley?

No, haven't tried that combo. Probably even more belt slip though.

Added a few parts this weekend. Got a rear diffuser from Bluff Master. Really nice piece. Also replaced the Saleen gauges with PLX DM100s and their boost and AFR modules. It has so many options allowing me to display up to 4 values from the OBDII or the modules at 1 time per gauge. You can show a plot, graphic gauge, or just values.
