Default Purchasing advice: 05-0399 S281 3-Valve coupe

Hi everyone, I've been looking at purchasing a '05 S281 as my first venture into the Saleen world. We all started somewhere. I was wondering what advice the forum had about this one. This is what I know so far about it:

This is an early 2005 model (#399). Came from the factory as a 3-valve 4.6 liter V-8 and received a dealer added Saleen supercharger and dealer painted stripes (those are not vinyl). Car was purchased in '09 with just over 6k miles and it currently has just over 26k miles. Always washed by hand and oil changed every 5000 miles with Mobil 1 full syn 5w-20. Minor road rash (will see in person Sunday).

New Champion spark plugs, Flowmaster mufflers, 14 inch Stoptech brakes with Centric low dust pads with 200 miles on them, Ram clutch, and Optima Red Top battery, Clarion double din head unit with blue tooth, Iphone and satellite radio capability. Original Shaker 500 head unit is available.

Racecraft suspension specifically designed for road courses. This includes beefier front and rear sway bars and Bilstein shocks/struts. Tires are Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval Indy 500 (275/35R20) with 12k miles on them.

He has also bypassed the vacuum canisters on the exhaust with a golf tee mod that simply plugs the vacuum line with a removable golf tee due to stop rattling. He wants 24k for it, and comparing to the NADA sticky it is a little below median price. Do y'all think this is fair?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Find a shop in your area and have a thorough inspection done and if it checks out, rock on!

Not a fan of those stripes either....but if you like them that is all that matters. I unhooked my exhaust valves too because of rattle, common problem with that set up and Saleen stopped using them in 07. I removed and plugged the vac line from the front of the car all the way to the back.

The car looks sweet. As Jason said, have a professional look it over. Good luck!

Probably. Tell him you will have to repaint hood, roof, and trunk. Get an estimate. He may meet you half way. Its worth a shot. Those types of stripes are not Saleen style, but the rest of the car is. Tell him you really want the car, but that is the big hang up. BUT, if you like the stripes, don't try to get too cute, because you may lose the deal. That happened to me when I was shopping for a Saleen.

Since you are in AZ, this one isn't too far away. I live in Oceanside so if you want me to check it out for you, no problem. I think it's a 2006 from seeing an earlier ad.

Your talking at least $1000 to reprint to get rid of the stripes. Definitely a bargaining point
Sounds like it has been taken care of.

I would also say to not settle on a car. There are plenty of other Saleens avail out there. It's kind of like buying a house, what are you willing to compromise on? Will you really reprint the hood, roof and deck lid? Who knows maybe it is something that will grow on you...personally when I was looking to buy mine, I absolutely did not want a red Saleen. Well needless to say it has grown on me and I actually love this redfire Saleen.

This also has a Saleen IV supercharger. Should have asked about it earlier.

After seeing the car the windshield needs to be replaced. Does anyone know how much that could run?
