I'm more interested in the engine, I'd like another choice besides a forged 3v,coyote or a 5.4 DOHC, I wonder which block they'll use for the 351...

Steve was kind of hush-hush on details on the new engine when I asked him about it. There is a company resleeving the Coyote engines for the 351 displacement. What ever Steve is doing, I wouldn't mind having one for my New Edge...lol

With Steve's SMS 302 now pushing 500-horsepower and greater in certain trim, I think the EPA-certified 351 will still be some time in the future and likely coincide with the aftermarket SMS 292 Supercharger release for the Mustang... again, at some time in the future.

Remember it's one thing to make a 351, and another to make one and sell it as an EPA-certified new car.

2013 Cobra/GT500 will have a 351 epa certified in it, starting under $50,000. Kinda hard to compete don't you think??

If the 351X is not released any time soon. Maybe you can have a 2013 GT500 go through and get the SMS treatment. It will be it's own 351X....

I heard that the only reason Saleen is able to put a 351 in the mustang is because it is an engine that comes in the mustang from ford(2013 GT500)

Same goes back to the 94-up Saleen S-351 engines, since ford was using the 351 in the 95 Cobra "R" model.

Not sure how true this is.....

The 351/5.8 was still placed in Ford trucks (F150, F250, F350) throughout the 1990s. Keep in mind the 1993 SVT Lightning pickup pre-dates the Cobra R.

I think with the old 302W and 351W marked as the same "engine family" it helped matters.

Well, my thought is that they could not sell the SMS cars that were priced high and can't figure out how they are going to sell that 351X will still a bad economy.

The economy has been picking up, and Saleen has what I think is an optimistic number of orders for 351 and 351X cars -- at least some people have more money (not me, of course).

The 351 models will be at the high end of the spectrum, and have always been fairly exclusive.

White Label, Yellow Label and Black Label 302 models continue to be offered.

Saleen needs a normally aspirated 351, putting down about 550 hp to compete with this new Z/28... lol The 351's, Extremes and Anniversary editions have never had huge production numbers, that is where the white, yellow and black labels come in. Quite honestly, I like the fact that they are rare. Cost wise, you need to compare them to Vipers and Z06's... they aren't cheap either. Bang for the buck, and exclusivity... the Saleen wins, hands down. I see many more Z's and Vipers than I do Saleens. I would love to buy a 351X. That car will be a monster... I'll have to live with getting mine current car upgraded. Sure it won't be a real 351x, but I will have Saleen do the work and it will be just as fun... Of course if I win the Lotto a 2015 351X convertible will be in my gaarage!

I would have to guess, since then it would be a 2012 and not a 2013 model correct?

It does! I love the '13 tail lights. It definitely looks really good next to a bright color/ It also has an SMS rear bumper for some reason? Someone posted a link in another thread where you can see a 360 of it. I'll see if I can find the link and post it here as well.

On the bumper, I'm assuming they are using the molds they have that have SMS on it or inventory of the body kit that they already have. Before changing up with new designs for the body styled stand coming out by Ford.

I figured that's what they were doing since its just a prototype. But still, it messes with my OCD. Lol. I wish they would change that rear bumper. That is one thing I have NEVER been a fan of.

Yes. It has 2013 headlights and taillights. This vehicle is a 2013, not an updated 2011-12.

Talk about bitter. Besides, the "SMS" is the "Saleen."

It seem people forget the 2010-12 Mustangs that were wearing Saleen badges out of MI where fraudulent vehicles that should not have existed.

Why should they not have existed? Should shelby not exist since he is no longer with them. I'm glad Steve has his name back, but just curious your explanation. Always interesting to learn and discuss.

They bought a stock of parts and a pool of press vehicles. Not the right to produce and market a "Saleen" vehicle.

You can always look at the SMS as Saleen Motor Sports instead of his name initials.
