11th Annual Saleen Nationals July 31st to Aug 3
So, who's going? I know of several people who are already registered. Too bad I can't make it this year, kills me that I can't make it. I have a local friend driving his SSC up, and another taking his Extreme Lizstick.

Sadly not taking the Saleen, but plans are to fly in on Thursday.
I'm accepting requests from all you poor guys out there that have more than one Saleen and need an experienced driver to help with the driving chores!

Joe, are you flying into LaGuardia or JFK? I'd love to get my 99 there as well as the 11 but given the traffic, I don't see any way to make it work right now. If you happen to be flying into Newark, let me know...

I called red roof Thursday, hotel is fully booked, but there were still rooms under the saleen block, took her a bit to find it. So point of the post is to be sure to ask about the block.

Saleen Nationals
Hello everyone, my name is Dan. I'm a new member, and I'm interested in going to the Saleen Nationals this year. This would be a first for me, and I'm not sure what to expect. Will this event be open to Camaro's and Challenger's also? It definitely looks like a great time!

My current plan is to grab a shuttle over to the hotel from there. I've got no clue where everything is around there, but I'm happy to assist if I can. Perhaps the shuttle can take me from JFK to somewhere close to you?

Thanks Joe, probably not going to work. From my house to JFK can be anywhere from 1.5 hours to 5 hours depending on traffic... Thanks anyway! Still trying to figure out when I'm going to have time to clean the 11, never mind clean up the 99. |

Ted, do a Mike Chessnoe bring them to the show dirty and let someone there clean then or go for the most dirt award

Hello everyone. I was wondering how big the Saleen Nationals are. Is it a big show? Has anyone ever been to the Saleen open house? If so, how was it? I want to go to both, but I'm not sure if time will allow me to. Which would you folks go to if you could?

It is difficult to put into words the adventure we had getting to and from the SCOA Nationals. The trip was scheduled to start at 1, but like my life has been for the last three years work keep interfering with fun. Having a major project at work is GREAT job security, but really put a crimp on fun time. Back to the adventure. As we entered NYC and hit our first pot hole (more like moon crater), Laura look it’s at me and says so glad we left the Saleen at home. That would have been a rim or strut. So, we continued through the maze of streets and tunnels on our journey to LOOOONGG Island and finally made it our room at 11 PM. We woke the next morning to rain, so Laura ran out and picked up rain ponchos at the local Wally World thinking we would be in the rain looking at cars. When she returned we jumped into the Edge, entered the show location into the GPS and we are off for the 3 miles to the show site. Well some 20 minutes later after driving through another maze of hair pin turn and red light cameras we finally found the site after passing it three times looking for cars in a parking lot. By the way NY has no shortage of red light cameras my WAZE GPS app was going crazy “red light camera reported ahead.”
With great excitement we got out of the car and unloaded Taylors show car. We entered the show with Laura and Taylor asking Rick where did they want to display her car (see pics below) needless to say both he and Lee were in shock because they had no clue we were going to attend the event. I followed them in and was stunned at the display of cars and that it was all in doors. I have to say the guys did a GREAT job they brought in wall treatment to make the back drop of the indoor soccer field walls much nicer to look at more car show friendly. If you missed the show you really missed a good time and well organized event. I think in the end they ended up with close to 60 cars one S7. Steve was there to meet and greet the members sign cars and autographs and just hang out. That evening we had a nice banquet with about 50 or so members and more time to talk with Steve and other owners. In the end it was what this hobby is all about Family, friends and Saleens. I am looking forward to next years event someplace down south. Might even have a track event.

Have to give a BIG THANKS to Steve, Liz and Molly for coming out to the east coast for a 3rd time this year. There were quite a number of people who had never met them and meeting them at an event like this absolutely made their weekend! It's one thing to see Steve at Carlisle or Charlotte surrounded buy 8 brazillion people, it's quite another to see him at an event with less than 100 cars and a lot less people than the big shows. Also thanks to Rudy and Betsy for making the trek, Wackett for not completely knocking me out of my chair pulling my cap off at the banquet and everybody else who came out, it really was a GREAT show! Hats off the the NY crew and the rest of the SCOA gang for putting together one of the best weekends I've enjoyed in a while! Also, how about a guy who brings an S7 to a show, opens the doors and invites EVERYONE THERE to sit in it, take pictures, ask questions, etc.. Great person and a credit to the automotive enthusiast world!
Got a picture of my daughter sitting in an S7, how great is that? :) Have to download everything from the camera yet... |
