Default Shaker Trim Ring - Production change?

Hi there! Has anyone purchased a replacement shaker hood trim ring for your PJ (or 2008 H302 3-Valve) recently?

I ask because I noticed my replacement ring from MJA/SPV appears to be a softer plastic and is textured which differs from the smooth, hard plastic version originally mounted to these vehicles.

While walking a local cruise night two weeks ago, I came upon a CDC Shaker equipped S197 GT convertible that appeared to have a trim ring similar to the one I received from MJA/SPV.

As PJ owners know, the shaker ring is known to crack. I believe mine has five such stresses. My basic question is, has anyone received a smooth replacement trim ring from MJA/SPV? Has the textured version superseded the smooth?

What are your thoughts of the textured ring? Does it standout (the texture) or look out of place?

Since it's all I've known I like it just fine. In my mind it does not stand out any more than the smooth ring would.

I just noticed that my trim ring was my one casualty of my first track day. It now has two large stress cracks in it.

Any idea on how much a replacement costs?

I could not find it on their web site.

Dave, I got an email from SPV stating that the trim ring is $79.99. Where did you get your price from?

$49.99 is what Jess Albright charged me for a replacement trim ring after the new year. The ring, part number and price do not appear in my Saleen Parts List pdf.

Has anyone removed an original, cracked PJ shaker trim ring from a hood? Looks like a well glued item.

I am needing the same question answered. Mine has not held up to track days and needs replaced. I was wondering just how it was held in.

Looks like adhesive. Maybe the same product used to hold the quarter window trim and side skirts to the S281s.

Although I have not personally removed one, it is supposed to be held on with glue and double sided tape.

yes just changed mine.Tape is hard as hell to peel off. Tape off entire surrounding area, take your time, take it off in pieces. New one installs in minutes. use the suppliedriveted inner ring to keep it firmly against the outer hood.

The trim ring would be the plastic trim piece that covers the cut in the hood. It runs along the edge of the cut in the hood.

Yes, I am referring to the HOOD trim ring. It is essentially a 90 degree angled plastic piece (single piece) that covers wherte they cut the hole in the hood.

Which trim ring is this?

The replacement I have from 2010 is like the original, but textured plastic. Installs from the top (exterior). A one-piece design.

What "riveted inner ring" and how does the set-up look? Do you have interference with the rubber hood weatherstrip or shaker base?

Place take a photo(s). Thanks.

Here is the trim ring kit below. Classic Design Mustang Shaker Trim Ring Set (2005-12). NO, it will not effect the soft rubber factory snap in piece from Saleen. The inner ring is riveted to the outer (hood top) ring after you install it with the supplied tape. The tape alone will easily hold it in place, but the "under hood" ring pulls it in tight so you have no gaps. It has a VERY slight texture that I think looks FAR, FAR better than the stock ring and hides any micro scratches.

Another link showing the whole page for the ring:

Have you installed this kit? Is the ring with this trim kit the same size as the original Saleen trim piece? From the picture, the rivets go into the hood trim horizontally. Am I correct?

Thanks in advance,
Coot

YES mine is installed, yes it fits prefectly. The "land" on the top is actually slightly wider than the cheaper Saleen piece so it covers the removed Saleen ring area better when installed. Took me about an hour to get the Saleen ring off...20 minutes to install the new trim ring. Removed the Saleen ring from the bottom/inside of the hood so that if I slipped with any tool I wouldn't damage the hood. My PJ only has 379 original miles on it...surely don't want any mess ups there. Sits right next to my 404 mile `08 Bullitt !!!

I already wiped mine down with silicone spray to keep it "soft" as the Saleen ring will crack over time and/or heat. Remember, it's just plastic and sitting on top of a large and hot engine...that plastic WILL dry out and leads to cracks even faster. I'm seriously thinking about buying another ring as insurance in case they quit making that part too !. Seems everytime I call Saleen about anything having to do with this car "it is not made anymore" is the standard answer.

If enough people want these we could start a group buy and Im sure we could get a great price since we are a preferred CDC dealer.

Whats your thoughts guys?

Sorry guys haven't been active for a while.
Parnelli #45 & #46 have the original rings and are textured #45 is cracked
Parnelli #407 has a smooth ring and a noticeable bump front and rear center for shaped of hood several cracks

I bought 3 new trim rings from Saleen in Troy 4 or 5 years ago textured same as #45 & #46

I also have another possibly CDC which is much deeper 3 times, same outside diameter as Saleen but has rivet holes in the vertical section, I only have one part which I bought 2nd hand from JDM 2 years ago.

Also Shabbabear the 302 in the Parnelli is a stroked 4.6 and has the same engine oil capacity 4.6 as no parts in the oil system were changed.

I was lucky to acquire a 4th owners manual a number of years ago I could look at getting copied if you are still interested.

Tony

I would be interested in an owners manual - I have the prototype and have zero documentation on how to care for it, any help would be great.PM me to discuss.

Thank you

My trim ring has been on since 2010, when JDM installed my SuperShaker. It is still in great shape. Looks like I will have to get a back-up based on everyone's experience. I would be interested in a group buy. Thanks.
