Help: Taking apart the shaker hood scoop
So I finally was able to get some long tube headers installed, Steeda CAI, and the tune( took some time) sorted out. I picked up a shaker hood system(ram air tube, brackets and the base plate. I want to modify the new air tube to direct it to the CAI.
My original shaker appears to be fiberglass, and I can get all the bolts out, but the top scoop seems to be on there pretty good. I don't want to break, just wondering if it just needs a little more muscle or I'm missing a connection point. I'm also thinking the ford racing manifold, although about 1/2" higher, I can modify the brackets from the new kit. That's a winter project or spring project and I need more measurement to work that out. Just trying to button up for the last month of decent driving weather here in NY. Any ideas would be great. Thanks.

Well, luckily it was pretty simple. It wasn't glued at all. Just need to be careful not to strip the finely threaded inserts.
I picked up the lower shaker assembly, decal, and air tube on eBay and modified the tube as not to damage the original which is fiberglass. It came out pretty good. I have a few minor adjustments to make and snug it all up. I'm not happy with the Ford Racing sticker I picked up, it has a matte sheen and not clear so I will redo that piece. I have to see if it blends in after It heats up.

Nice! Where does the down tube from the shaker end up? I can't tell from the pics.

I'll take/post a better pic when I get home tomorrow. Basically similar to the Saleen OEM design. Comes in roughly similar location, same size hole, and gasket, but had to cut the ram air tube a few inches to clear the CAI air cleaner.
I tried a name brand hole saw made especially for cutting stainless, however, it was just shy of worthless, going slow, and plenty of cutting oil didn't help. I picked up an HF air nibbler that kicked a$$ and took names. Really impressed with the nibbler. Made short work, the only issue was the half-moons all over the place. Even though I had the paper out covering the area, and ran a magnet and vacuum over the area I was working, I'm still finding slivers, but not many left. Fun project.

Here you go with the pics. Not sure if it's better to have gasket reversed or the way its shown.

My Wife's CDC shaker bottom piece was cracked. Figured this would look allot better. I just need the bolts. Did yours come with them? Looks like i need to go to the hardware store. lol Im just hoping it lines up the same. PS....Im still confused about one bracket and where it goes. You didnt by any chance make a how to with pix as you went along...?

Nice! Similar setup. There are only two brackets with the original and the one purchased on eBay. The one with the "long arms" locates in the rear, the short one in the front. There exactly the same as the original one has same part numbers stamped on the brackets.
As far as the bolts, I used the ones that came with the original since the "new" base kit is a NOS "New old stock". The The only stainless bolts, washers, and nylon lock nuts I had to purchase were for the ram air tube since it has a slightly different connection to the base the original one. I can't remember the exact thickness of the bolts, but they were slightly thicker than a 2" sheetrock screw in diameter. I want to say 3/16" by 1-1/2". The only thing I would change in that pic is to install the gasket that came with the base you purchased. This way you will minimize any unwanted underhood heat reaching the CAI and raising you IAT's where it could negatively affect engine performance. I really didn't take any pics, since it was literally, "plug and play" other than modifying the ram air tube to fit the stainless CAI Box. Getting the hole location was a little difficult at first, but the gasket gives a little room for error so to speak. I hope this helps.

It didnt come with a gasket and my CDC setup obviously doesnt have one.
I have the two brackets though... I just hope the Shaker itself is the same. Is that one larger bracket supposed to be twisted some???

If it has this bolt pattern you should be good to go. The bolt pattern looks just like this in the link.
https://www.cjponyparts.com/mustang-...ms/c/60020155/ I'm sure you can find the bolt kit online. Or maybe the CDC uses the same which by eye it looks the same. Looks like you have all the parts other than the gasket. Double check the box, mine came with another gasket same as the original. Yes, the bracket is slightly twisted, looks like it is correct, and mounts to the last bolt on the intake manifold I'll take a pic of the gasket and bracket location when I return over the weekend.

I would like to hold onto the extra just in case, however, if you look in this thread.http://saleenforums.soec.org/showthread.php?t=21633.
It has all the info on the grommet The maker is Kennard industries. I would give them a ring. If you come to a dead end, I would rethink letting the grommet go. Since alot of the PJ parts are no longer made many including me try to have one extra of certain pieces. Their really hard to come by and sometimes they are priced $$$$$$. I'm betting you can find the grommet online.

Wait a min...maybe Im mistaken. I was thinking the shroud had a rubber seal around it.
It looks like it does in your picture above. I dont need the airtube to airbox grommet. Is there not a rubber gasket that goes around the shakers shroud?

Does the back bracket sit on the bolts for the fuel rails and then the wire loom push on pushes over the top or do you actually take that bolt out and then bolt it down...?
