Default Q: Series I & II intercooler heat shield?

Is this legiate? Does this actually work? Does it actually make it 50-60 degrees cooler? I don't buy into it. Has anyone tried it? What do you guys think?

Worth buying to try it ?

On ebay?

I've heard some good thing about Mustang Magic and some bad about the rubbish intercooler leak. Might be worth something. See if anyone can chime in with more knowlege on this...

Looks cheap I'd just get a chicane unit or a
One from a vendor on this site who made one similar to
The
Chicane design

Default Saleen heat shield

I am the guy that made the heat shield. It does have a patent# and yes I do own three Saleens 2000, 2002 and a 2004 #189. This is not a cheap or poorly designed part! Not to many people can say Steve Saleen saw their invention I can. He was here in NY twice in one year. Before bashing the product call me and ask all the questions you may have. Better yet lets take my car out for a ride on a hot day. Call Martin at 631 764 0157. By the way I can show all my pictures with Steve Saleen signing all my cars. I will post pictures soon just found out about the posting here and became a member today. The temps do not drop 60 degree you will see a reduction from 165-170 to 130-135 on a hot day not a winter day.

I actually saw this on ebay the other day. I had mine dynoed on a hot humid day last summer and was unhappy with it. My car went from 130 to 160 degrees in one pull on the dyno! I was able to make 361/393 later in the year. I pulled the blower off and filled the gaps with the quick setting JB weld. I don't have a gauge so i don't know if filling the gaps helped the temps. I like the design and the thought of dropping my temps low enough to add timing and make more power.
It looks like a quality product, I wish it was a little cheaper but I understand it took some work to get to a finished product.

If you want to give one to me as a test mule, I'll send you my address! ;)

Default Saleen heat shield

Sorry I did all the R&D on my own cars over the last 15 months with several dyno pulls and really world driving in traffic and open road. By the way that combo you have should be making 450hp. That is where I am with that combo safely.

I was hoping for 400 after the install. My temps were killing the timing. Do you think I could lower temps/add timing enough to get to 450?? That would make this my next purchase!!

Go onto Ebay and search Saleen supercharger heat shield or Item number:130663173657. All the pictures you would like to see are probably shown in the listing. Martin

I bought and installed this Heatshield. Does lower intake temperatures. It's a straightforward design. It allows all the air to pass thru the intercooler. Something Saleen should've done.
I went from 165 to about 135° on a really hot day.
I have aftermarket heatexchanger and tank but even that wasn't helping until I installed this.
Martin is a great guy. He always answer my phone calls about any questions I had and even helped me in the process.

Thumbs up

There you go Codered. That's it. Worth the price and some. I had a vacuum leak and charger had to come off anyway. Slipped this Heatshield in there while I was at it. No issues with it whatsoever.

Huge air intake temps. difference. You'll be happy with the mod. I thought about porting the blower too but I'm still running everything basically stock.
Later on I'll probably will.
Let me know how it goes.

I've always wondered about this myself! Will it work with the series 5 blowers? If so I'll take one. I already have a Chicane intercooler, LFP heat exchanger, and a LFP coolant reservoir. I wouldn't mind dropping my intercooler temps a little more. :)

If you have the Chicane unit, the gaps are already sealed. The chicane unit is a better designed intercooler as well, not to mention bigger.

We all need to remember that the Saleen unit was the first of its kind and the best for the time. No matter how good it comes from the factory, there always seems to be room for improvement.

That is at the crank. That is a safe number for a daily driven stock 2v mod motor. We can make more but at what cost to reliability on a stock motor.

Just a few questions about the install on this product.

1. For a full intercooler install, it looks like you would have to remove the lower intake from the car....ie pull the whole thing. For installing just this plate however, is it an easier install since you don't have to pull the intercooler out? Is the blower able to be pulled off without removing the lower intake from the car?

2. Any instructions available to show pics of the install?

3. How hard it is to silicone around the base where it meets the intercooler and not make a mess and clog up the intercooler air stream?

4. Does the small plunger valve (I thinks its the boost purge circuit for low RPM) on the drivers side of the blower need to be adjusted in order to compensate for the extra thickness of this plate...thus making the blower sit slightly higher on top?

Thanks!

Default Install questions

Yes you can see install pictures on my ebay listing.Item number: 130715481906 It will show the silicone installed and no it does not clog the inter cooler fins. You can install the shield with just the removal of the blower. The blower can be separated from the lower intake on the car. No further adjustment or modification will needed in order to run the shield. Feel free to call me 631 764 0157 Martin.

Default bringing this thread back from the dead

I bought one of these from Martin and received it yesterday. Anyone have any tips/tricks on removing the blower and intercooler and what silicone did you use to seal around the edges? Any issues since the install??

1. Short 13 mm open end/ratchet wrench
2. 6 pack of cold beer...this helps with the patience to lay over the car and do several hundred 1/8 th turns of said short wrench.

Oh it would have taken more than a 6 pack. It took me and my brother who both pretty efficient at working on cars with full shop tools at our disposal 4 hours to remove the blower. Then another 4 hours to pull the intercooler out.

The only thing Saleen could have done to make pulling these out more difficult would have been to weld it In.

It gets faster the more times you remove the blower if you have the correct removal and install procedure. I have it down to about a 12 beer ( 3 hours) operation with minimal tools from battery disconnect to battery reconnect.
