Question About transmissions

Hello everybody

I have a question about transmission on a stock Saleen S281-E:

1)Automobile-catalog shows only manual 5 S281's, called "Tremec TR3650"
2)While then i found brochure with "Close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission" - i think it's the Saleen Quick Ratio 6-Speed Manual?
3)Some of the owners said it has Tremec T56 with identical to Pontiac GTO's gear ratios
4)I also heard about TR-6060, so i want to know: whom to believe? also, i saw multiple values about main gear ratio: about 3.55, 3.73 or 4.1

And gear ratios that i found was: 3.34:1, 2.00:1, 1.32:1, 1.00:1, .067:1, ?:1

So, in short words: 1)What's the stock transmission(s) on 2005-6 S281-E and 2)What's the gear ratios?

And if someone can, please tell me: 1)what's the idle RPM? 2)if there is analog of lightweight aluminium flywheel? If no, how much does it weigh?

Thank you in advice

A few items

1) You can call Saleen with your VIN and bumper number and they might confirm what you have

or

2) Order a copy of your window sticker from Saleen for $45.00

I'am asking about these subjects because in future i have a choise between 3 cars and one of them is a Mustang S197 - there are some problems with availability of this car in my region, so i wanna know about intersting tuning projects like this S281 or for example - Shelby Terlingua

Hi

The standard gear ratios on the Extremes T56 were same as GT500
1st 2.97 2nd 1.78 3rd 1.30 4th 1.00 5th .80 6th .63
The '05-'07 Extreme had 4.11 gears were the '08 had 3.73 rear end
My '08 Extreme has the 6060 and my '06 racecar has a T56
Both trans are very similar but one big difference the T56 can be removed without bell housing and the shifter is integral in gear box
I run a Pfitzner close ratio dog box in race car 1st 2.437 2nd 1.611 3rd 1.28 4th 1.00 5th .891 6th .802 and a 4.11 rear end
Not sure what weight of flywheel is certainly lighter than steel. The steel flywheel was 6 bolt mounting and aluminum is 8 bolt mounting
Trust this helps

Greetings

Thank you very much for that info, now i understand things! Your help is invaluable!

About flywheel: yep, i know about that, somehow i think it's not the Saleen's because the spec sheets i saw they all do not include lightweight flywheel as with other parts

Saleen never manufactured any parts were all brought in
Clutches were possibly Spec or McLeod
Saleen changed the 6 bolt steel flywheel with an aluminium 8 bolt flywheel along with the Kellog crankshaft in the 2008 Extreme
Also the standard Ford 10 spline clutch was replaced with the 26 spline on T56 and 2020 gearbox as per the GTO
When I get a chance will weigh a flywheel for you, I have fitted a twin plate Australian Extreme Clutch to my '06 it has ceramic plates and grips really well with 740HP

You talking about "stock" aluminium flywheel that comes with S281? That would be great of you

Ah, yes, i'd like to ask you: do you know about standard ride height too? Looks like it lowered a bit compared to regular mustang

Hi
Only the Extremes and Heritage editions ie, PJ's and Gurneys had the lightweight aluminium flywheel which weigh 5.5kg
Ride height is marginally lower than the standard S197 certainly not as low as my previous '07 Shelby's which I always had problems with clearance on my lift

One last thing I believe the Saleen models were a far better build car than the comparable Shelbys which were built by Ford NOT Shelby unless they were the Super Snake and Shelby GT final assembly was in Las Vegas

Well, reading all the info about saleens i can agree with you
And i consider that Saleen S281, especially Extremes and Supercharged versions are all unique to American car industry with all his technical solutions making it the one who don't have analogs even to our days, i'd say it's like Nismo Z-Tune from Nissan: self-sufficient, attractive and charismatic as hell!
I really love that type of cars
