Pics of the 1st 2010 Saleen S281 SR

:eek::eek::biggrin::eek::eek:

Pedders has been working with Saleen for just over a year to build the best looking and best handling Mustang on the planet. Every S281 or S302 leaves the Saleen facility with coilovers and cambers plates. The collaboration between Pedders and Saleen created the possibility of a special model. The new Saleen SR would be road course ready from the Ford showroom. Pedders USA Camaro pulls 1.384 Gs on a road course on street tires. It is fast, very fast. The Saleen S281 SR is just as fast and maybe faster. We can't give you all the details at this time, but we can give you a look at the car.

Naw'. The coilovers are an option on the MJ302

NeoS281 08-02-2010 07:00 PM

Not to be critical, but I thought the SR model would be a wide body :frown:.

On another note, I would love to have the SMS 302 in a white convertible with the speedster option

Oh my! I said a similar thing to Jim just this past week. I'd like to have a white SMS 302 coupe with blue chevrons. Maybe there can be a group discount offered.

Greg Wackett 08-03-2010 10:08 AM

I think Mark at Performance Autosport did somework with them on this set up. Since they are known for there suspension work and knowledge.

I was under the impression the SR was getting the coil over and the non SR cars it was an option, Dave R can you update?

Jess Albright 08-03-2010 10:52 AM

The S302 NA that is out right now comes with the Racecraft suspension standard just like from 05-09, the coil over kit is optional. The S302SC will come standard with the coil over kit. This vehicle has multiple other suspension components not yet available, but will soon be announced!

Thank you
Jess

Jeff05S281 08-03-2010 11:29 AM

That car really makes me cringe.

The SMS is so much cleaner, classier, and "Saleen-like"

Greg Wackett 08-03-2010 11:29 AM

Thanks for the info Jess, hope all is well.

Is that the N2+ Suspension I see?

I would like to see a bigger wing on it.

Yeah, its definitely slammed. Exciting to hear about the state of art suspension they are utilizing. It'd be nice if they could implement a "lightweight" package.

The thumbs down icon is unfortunate.

What adjustments to the suspension were made? (Pending the answer to my first question.) Also, are the side skirts custom for this car? The base line created by them does not intersect the slope of the front and rear fascia base lines. This usually creates a disconnect making the custom pieces unmistakably applied to the stock body (reference most cheap import body kits), however in this application it is working well. That is why I ask. I wish they had used the speedstar wheels as well.

What advantages have been measured by insulating the air intake tube?

laboss1 08-03-2010 09:24 PM

Lose the hood stripe and the black wheels and i would consider buying one.

The tremendous synergies of Control-Tec LLC, Power-Tec Engineering LLC, and Arrow Racing Engines.

- Pedders builds/engineers the suspension.

Pedders Manufactures the suspension to our specs. Just like Eibach manufactures SMS's

- CDC does the plastic.
Not true. CDC does't do the plastic. We have a tooling company do ours, just like SMS does. Not many companies do their own, Roush is the exception.

- Alternative builds the cars.
All the people that have worked for Saleen for the past 5-6 years building the highest quality cars ever built in the Saleen history. I dare you to compare the build quality to anyone out there doing aftermarket Mustang's.

What are the over stock 05-09 pieces?? I would love to know, because I can give you suppliers info and you can see when BOUGHT (AND PAID FOR) all the parts on these.

You go Jess!

Seriously guys. SPV is still putting out some great cars, and deserve some respect.

It's simply common courtesy to not come into a thread that is focused on an SPV design and start bashing it in favor of SMS. To each his own for preference, but there's not reason to bash on the competition just to try to build up your own preference.

Let's try to keep it friendly for those at SPV that are working their butts off to make life good for those of us that still own Saleen and not SMS cars. Jess and Tony and the whole crew at SPV are great guys, so let's cut 'em a break.

I think another inch bigger on the wheels might help.

I could not agree more !!! SPV is providing a great product, they have went out of the box and provided new angels on a NEW Saleen (Notice SMS still looks just like a 09 Saleen with diffrent badging, wow thats really innovative, lol). Every time they come outwith a new product moderators of this site try to sarcastically talk trask about it. It happens EVERY TIME, it is so imature and doesn't sit well with many of this sites followers. I know of many that have left to other Saleen sites, just because of this one reason. I mean come on, SPV is not even given a Form Catagory for their cars and all they do is continue to Market the name of "SALEEN" for the greater good.

kendoo130 08-05-2010 12:43 PM

I guess you can't make everyone happy. I like it minus the hood stripe/decal? If there are more wheel choices that would be good-I personally don't like black wheels. Does that wrapped up intake tube actually make a difference or are they just trying it out?

I thought you learned you lesson about bashing other peoples products? It makes you look bad to constantly bash SPV.
The SMS car is a unique car for the mustang community just like the SPV car.
There are styling ques I like from both cars. Both company's build unique cars that better the hobbie,it does nothing but hurt SCOA,SOEC to Keep up the bashing of the products ,we all know how you feel and it is your right if you prefer the SMS car but we are all tired of you constantly trying to create more friction between all of us.

This car is nothing like the Saleen I am use too. Very plain and looks like something that was built in my garage. Also a bit too low for me.

The Roush and SMS are much better looking IMO.

The Pedders S281 car is a one off paint sceme, that is a trademark color combo for the Pedders brand. They also have custom wheels for the car.
The suspension is completely adjustable and is set to a lower ride height for a shoot out.

Well it does nothing for me. I know that the suspension is adjustable since it has coilovers..... I use to sell Import Performance Parts and use to sell the heck out of coilovers so I know what they are and that they are adjustable. I was just saying that it was too low for me.

As for the paint its fine.... Its just the styling of the car that I don't like. You can't please everyone. Just like the Roush or SMS... Not everyone is going to like it.

You are correct. Everyone has there own opinion. Plus how boaring would it be if we did not have so many choices! I would hate to spend what everone is asking for the new mustangs just to see excatly what you bought at every car show ands stop light.

The Thumb has been Fixed !

Jess Albright 08-06-2010 02:15 PM

For those interested, here are some answers:

1. The air inlet duct is insulated just to keep some of the really high exhaust manifold temps coming off the long tube headers from absorbing into the plastic inlet tube causing the air inside to be warmer. Probably over kill but it doesn't hurt anything.

2. The wheels are a Wheel that the owner of Pedders USA likes and had Forgeline make, They are not Saleen wheels. He wanted to have 19" wheels 10 1/2" wide ALL the way around. Yes the fronts are 10 1/2" wide. Lots of rubber on those for the track.

3. No adjustments were made to the coilover spring positions at all. This kit will bolt right up to the car without any modifications to the chassis at all. This car is set very low for the track, you can raise it up about 3-4 inches if you wish. No matter where the ride height is set your ride quality will remain the same since your not touching spring preload to adjust ride height. Obviously if your as low as this your limiting up travel so if you hit a large bump you will feel it more because it will hit the bump stops.

4. We worked long and hard on the dampening settings, spring rates, spring lengths, rear shock lengths, and spring perch lengths to make this a SALEEN suspension system. We are also working on multiple other suspension accessories that are on this car and will be announced very soon. We are not settling for average in anything we are doing with on these new suspension components (Pete from Pedders can attest to that). We are holding our standards extremely high because there are plenty of companies out there selling mediocre at best suspension components, we won't be one of those.

5. The paint job is again something the owner of Pedders USA wanted, this is something he likes and as the owner of the car, has the right to do.

6. A rear wing is in the works for those of you who think it needs it.

7. This is an R&D car, its not a show car or a production vehicle. We are doing constant testing and engineering work with Pedders on parts that are in development.

8. Pete is the owner of Pedders USA, he may chime in and fill in any info that I missed. Maybe also clear up the confusion of how Saleen isn't just "rebadging" any parts, but rather engineering, testing, and putting to market SALEEN parts, made to our specs and quality standards.

Thank you for those of you who have valid questions, and give constructive criticism. Everyone has an opinion and I can respect that, but bashing and using slander is no way to act on a public forum of any kind.

Thank you
Jess

Thanks Jess for all the input and keeping us in the loop. Class Act !!

JusticePete 08-07-2010 01:59 AM

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Pete Basica the President of Pedders USA, LLC. I met Jess Albright and Michale Timarac a little over a year ago. We put our collective toes in to test the waters of working together. The first tangible product of this test was the introduction of the Saleen coilovers at SEMA in 2009. As our relationship matured we expanded our business relationship. The R & D car pictured in this thread is the result of our collaboration. It is not a production car. It is an R & D car, that just happens to be very fast and handle exceptionally well

Early in our relationship we were going down parallel roads. There were going to be Saleen suspension products and Pedders suspension products for the Mustang. As we worked together it became clear that there should be only one Mustang suspension line and that should be under the Saleen brand.

A Saleen coilover is very different than the Pedders version was. The Saleen version had longer coils that are lower in rate. The dampening is less aggressive. The ride is more sophisticated. A Saleen is OE ride and control on steroids. Driving a Saleen coilover Mustang is a different experience than driving a Pedders coilover Mustang. The Pedders version was more aggressive. That is when things started to click. There should be the Saleen coilover and the Saleen TRACK version of the coilover with short coils, higher in rate and more aggressive damping. That is when we decided the Pedders brand for Mustang would give way to Saleen.

The last Pedders branded coilover was given away at Mustang week. It should be a collectors item as there are no more Pedders brand Mustang coilovers or parts -- Only Saleen. A secondary reason for this decision was to eliminate the perception that the Saleen part was a rebranded Pedders part. That was not the case with the first Saleen coilovers, but reading through the thread it certainly was the perception of some. I have learned a great deal from the people at Saleen. I hope they picked up an idea or two from me. The point is that working together we are a stronger TEAM and can deliver better product than we would separately.

The people at Saleen have a clear vision of what a Saleen should be and how it should perform. My job is to work with Saleen to create the suspension parts they need to complete their vision. If I do my job right, no one will care who I am. No one will care about Pedders role at Saleen. They will just turn the key in their Saleen, turn a corner and smile mile after mile.

So how did we pick the ride height? It had nothing to do with the look or style. It had everything to do with corner weighting and balance. You can only get this low with the TRACK version of the Saleen coilovers. The wheels were not selected for a look either. They were selected because Forgeline build some of the strongest lightest racing wheels available. Les rotating mass delivers better braking, better acceleration and better handling with a reduction in unsprung weight. We worked with Forgeline to fit 19x105" wheels front and rear. The offsets help create a balanced track and reduce understeer. The tires are the best we can but for a combination street and track car. They are Bridgestone RE-11 305/30/19 front and rear. This i a purpose built car. It is built for predictability and stability. A good driver can take a stable and predictable car and come close to performing miracles when they are confident in how the car will respond. This car inspires driver confidence.

As for the paint scheme what can I say. Black and red are Pedders trademark.

I like everything else about the SMS car better than this one with one important exception, the rear-end. Saleen's version is the only one that cleans up the abomination that Ford pasted on there from the factory. SMS's version looks completely spastic and out of place, and is just as bad as the factory units from Ford IMO.

I'd take the SMS car, and graft the Saleen's rear end onto it.

Track?

Reading above it sounds like there will be Saleen street version and a Saleen track version.

Is the N2+ version the track version? I thought that was the new standard Saleen suspension. If so, how do I get the track version? The stock N2 suspension makes these things wallow around the track like a dizzy cow. Must get track version.....

Jess Albright 08-13-2010 07:14 PM

Yes, there will also be a track version of the coilover kit. The kit we sell now is perfectly capable of going out on a track and handling awesome, but the track kit will be more of a dedicated track set up, not as good on the street! Stiffer and lower!!

The majority of the people would probably want to go with the standard kit, while the guys who are really serious about putting their car on a track and racing it will want the track kit.

Along with this car, we also had the 2010 S281 Supercharged, and a 2011 S302 NA production cars out on the track for a few laps, both had the Saleen coil over kit on them and they were unbelievable!! We have some video clips of that also that we will post soon.

Thank you
Jess

QCRAZY 08-13-2010 08:14 PM

ETA on the track kit?

Werecow 08-16-2010 12:38 PM

Jess, so that I am clear. You will be offering the base suspension, the street coil-over and a track coil-over system? Why not just offer the two coil-over systems?
