Solved: PJ Shaker trim ring replacement
 

For all of those PJ owners with cracked shaker rings here is a solution.
I just received a new ring from CDC...from all indications it appears to be a perfect fit..I will post installed pictures when i complete the install..Here are pics of the new ring.

$$?? Who did you contact? The last time I called them they wouldn't separate.

Have you done the installation yet? Does the top ring insert into a trim piece on the underside of the hood?

I would be careful with the CDC underside trim part not jiving with the Saleen shaker base.

OK guys and gals, Shaker ring installed. Pictures attached. I have more pics if you need to see them. Make sure and mask off the ring with double or triple layered tape to prevent any scratching of the paint. It appears from the pics that Saleen attached the ring before painting the stripe, thus painting them together. This new CDC ring is about a 1/16" wider all the way around over the Saleen ring. This actually is good because it covers the paint edge quite well. Also this ring is textured exactly like the shaker and looks great IMO.
The base for the ring seems to works fine when installed. I did have to manipulate the rubber gasket around the inside ring a bit. I did rivet it on with the 4 attached rivets in the kit. The hood closes fine, although a bit tighter now. I'm sure due to the rubber gasket being a bit lower on the inner ring.
As you can see my Saleen ring was broken in two places. Take your time prying up in the rings edge. You will have to carefully scrape off the sealant/glue that Saleen used before installing the new ring. Total install time was about 2 hours for me. Enjoys the pics. I hope this solves the cracked trim ring for some of you.

Gunnr, Nice work and you documented it very well. These parts on my PJ are in good shape now but this information may prove valuable in the future.

This brings up a question that I have about mine, that being closing the hood. My normal practice on my other vehicles is to lower the hood gently until it rests on the latching mechanism then push it down by hand to latch it in place. On my PJ it seems that the only way to close it is to let it slam shut from a position (front edge of hood) to the latch of about 18 in. It bothers me to let it slam. Is this normal for PJ's or does my hood need some adjustment?

UPDATE: In my previous post i mentioned that my hood closed a bit firmer than before. After reading Dave's post to be aware of the clearance of the bottom shaker ring i decided to take a closer look. It did appear that the lower ring was to close to my shaker base and i felt that i needed to trim off the lip of that lower ring. With the lower lip of the ring trimmed off, the hood closes much easier now. The factory rubber seal now seats against the Shaker bottom tray as it should. I would recommend trimming this lower ring before any install of the top ring. Thank you to Dave for his suggestion. Pics attached.

You note that, with the ring trimmed, the hood is easier to close, In closing it do you drop the edge of it to latch it or can you lower it gently to rest on the latch and then push it it down to the latched position as I mentioned earlier?

I'd also be interested to hear from others how you close the hoods on your Saleen Mustangs.

Richard before my Shaker replacement ring install my hood either had to be dropped similar to your method, or i could close it with hood pressure once it had rested on the latch. However either way required a bit of force to close. I'm not sure if it is because of the latch mechanism or something else. It would be nice for other PJ owners to chime in about this.

I know what is wrong - There are 6 different Shrouds:
the Old Mach1 Shroud.
the newer Mach1 shroud
The 2005-2009 Shroud (what I originally had)
The PJ/Heritage Shroud (My new shroud)
The SuperShaker shroud &
the 2015+ Shroud

You need to reuse your older lower hood ring. It mates up correctly with your current shroud.
This was one of the issues that I had. I picked up a newer shroud (Like the PJ) to replace my older larger one but the two did not meet up together. They hit and rubbed.
Slamming the hood was slamming the two pieces together where the hump on the lower ring (back pass side?) didnt meet up with the shroud.
The newer hood lower ring does not match the PJ shroud.

I couldnt find the correct lower ring for the PJ shroud.

Look at your PJ shroud after a week and youll see the rub on it from your new uncorrect lower ring.
It will eventually break it.

Hi Barricade, thanks for the response, but in my case, these shaker hood parts are all original as the car has only 1400 miles and has never been exposed to the elements more than a few hours at a time. Any other thoughts on why it is necessary to let the hood slam shut?
It's in winter storage now so I can't easily examine these parts so, when I pick it up this spring, I'll make a point of studying the assembly under the hood for any scraping, etc.

I have PJ 219 . The hood is a little snug( i think from the Steeda CAI and the foam on top resting on the bottom of the hood. I usually let it sit on the latch and then push it down just below the hinge pins. Usually, both hands ( Habit) but it can be closed with one hand. I also currently have the shaker lower (OEM picked up on eBay) that is 2nd generation mold. I have original handmade fiberglass one in storage. The only real difference is the finish. It's more like the outer ring installed in this post.
