The one on the car now was installed at saleen!
I am the third owner, I was told that the Saleen started out as an 06 S281 and was taken back to Saleen and converted into an extreme in 2007.

Is the polished system for an S281 N/A?
The system leaning against the garage I picked up as a spare.
Can someone with knowledge tell me the difference between the two?
I just installed a Dynotech Lt's and catted mid pipe and was wondering if I should put on the uninstalled system? Someone help me out with some knowledge.
Both systems fit the extreme rear valance, so no worries there.
Is one system better than the other and why?
Thanks in advance!

The Magnaflow WAS the stock Saleen exhaust for all the S281 cars at least into 2007. Early 2005 versions had vacuum actuated flappers in the turndowns that were noisy and unpopular, they removed the flappers for later models. The Extreme exhaust was only different at the turndowns, as they are kicked in to line up with the exhaust cutouts in the rear diffuer (still haven't figure out why). Non-Extreme cars have turndowns that come straight back, then down and are usually trimmed shorter so they are not visible from the back.

At some point they switched to this other brand that is stamped as Saleen. I believe the specs are identicle with one key variation, the exhaust hangers on the Magnaflow version are welded to the body of the mufler and they will eventially tear a hole in the muffler and fall off. If you look closely in the pics you can see the new Saleen muffler rectify this by welding to the rolled edge.

Now that said, the sound was too close for me to tell the difference between the two, but the Saleen piece has to painted black in several places before mounting (ask me how I know ) and in cases like mine they did not trim the turn downs so they were flush with the bottom of the pipe (as the Magnaflow was).

Please note you must also fit and adjust the placement of the rear exhaust (per the directions) as they are all a little different and you could end up with the center tips sticking way out (again, ask me how I know).

I was lucky enough to have Jess help me get mine replaced while it was under warranty. Here is a picture of the driver's side where the hanger usually rips out. Yes that was a polished Magnaflow!

Course its all covered up by the diffuser now.
Bummer cause it turned out great.

I just put the magnaflow setup back on after welding the left rear hanger, it was starting to rip a hole where the hanger was welded.
I guess I will leave the magnaflow system on and save the Saleen system as a backup. Or sell years later if not used.
I just installed Dynatech LTs and catted x-pipe this last weekend. MAN it sounds like a raped ape at higher rpm's, ultimately I was hoping that maybe the Saleen stamped system might quite it down. Sounds like it will not.

Jason,
I have not reached a conclusion on the Dynatech system yet. The car is still up in the air waiting on rear calipers to get powder coated and waiting for rear suspension upgrades due to be delivered any day now.

In other words, once the Dynatech system was installed, I could only listen to it idle and rev inside of my garage. Which is not a fair sound sample. I will draw a conclusion to whether or not I like it after I have it out in the open air and a spirited drive.

I can say that it is definitely louder and more aggressive sound over the stock catted h-pipe that was on there.

I am hoping that I like it, it was 10 hours of blood and sweat to install.

Robert, maybe they were using some of the Saleen models and mixing and matching with whatever Magnaflow that was left. Or yours was replaced before you got it, since you have the later design.

I just spoke with you over the phone ordering the radiator cover and forgot to tell you that.....I DO LOVE THE DYNATECH. I had the car out the last weekend and it is exactly the sound I was hoping for.
